I find myself constantly beginning to hate things simply because so many people love them. I'm not entirely sure why i fell like that, but i find when so many people go on about something (The Dark Knight is a good example [specifically the Joker]) i start truly hating to even hear about it, it happens with music as well.

So begs the question, does anyone else out there start hating things simply because of their popularity...or am i just broken?

Everyone fancies themselves a rebel. No offense.
But it's understandable to see someone go "OMG THIS IS TEH BEZTZORZ EVARRR" and using it to justify smacking them to death.
lol i know what you mean, but i dont place any importance on it, in fact its kind of a heel cuz i dont get along with most of the people at my highschool...because theyre all obsessed with the same crap, it drives me nuts...like a cult.

From the general consensus of this forums, most people here hate 'pop' stuff. I personally am willing to try the popular stuff for myself before hating it as opposed to simply jumping on the 'Love FFVII and hate Halo 3' bandwagon.

I'm generally blasé and if I hate something I simply state it but don't feel the need to rant about it on the internet. I don't hate something because it's popular, then you're just conforming to another genre of conformity. If I feel that something is too popular compared to what every says (Halo 3 and Superbad spring to mind) then, once again I simply state my view without making an issue of 'I didn't like Superbad, even though every loves it'.

No, If I like something and people annoy me with it, I hate them not what they are going on about. For instance Gears of War. I like it, but am surrounded by people who follow the "OMFG IM CUMIN 4 GOW2!!!" mentality and deal with it by telling them they are retarded, not by disliking something I enjoy.

I never understood the "non-comformist", why not just like what you like and let everyone else go to hell, not by action but by nature?

I wouldnt say rebel, persay, I just dont usually take part in things that are popular or conformist. Its not on purpose, I just choose to do what I like, not what everyone else likes.

Rebelling for the sake of not conforming is kind of a paradox. Because most people rebel in the same way so than they are conforming to the rebels and well you see how this goes...

I, too, find myself hating crap that everyone else seems to go on and on about, but i have nothing against going over it and seeing if i actually like it after the buzz has died down.

I suppose it's more accurate to say i hate the majority, and subsequently i tend to hate anything they like; once they stop liking it, it's fair game.

Don't hate it because everyone loves it.

Similarly, don't love it because everyone loves it.

Make up your own damn mind. Or, if it doesn't really matter, ignore the issue.

But, if an opinion is getting shoved in your face constantly, it's only natural to shove back.

Or write a LiveJournal about it...

I would rather just be an individual and make up my own mind, conforming to anything is kinda pointless.

I have long hair and listen to heavy metal.

I respect other people's opinions but don't really give a shit what they think about me.

I don't go for "trendy" merchandise.

My question is: does this make me a rebel, or an individual?

To be honest, I think that hating something for the sole reason that everyone else likes it is still a negative thing. It's simply a reaction to people liking it, so therefore you are letting them influence you, just like people are influenced to like things because of the majority.
I like what I like for the sole reason that I like it. I don't care if only one other person in the world likes something, if I personally enjoy it, then I like it. If the vast majority of the world enjoys something, and I like it, then I like it. Same goes for the opposite.

But, if you think about it too hard, unity and rebellion ties into a complex paradox.

I only "rebel" against something when I think there's something wrong with it. If someone rebels for the sheer sake of not fitting in, I lose all respect for them. Because it means that you are rebelling to fit into the group of people that are rebels. Rebels without a cause are just pointless.

"You want to be a rebel? Be uncool. Wear pen-holders like him" (Badly mangled quote)

There is no rebellion, there is only freedom. Rebellion is when you act in a manner contrary to established authority, which is generally a very silly thing to do as established authority is reknowned if not for it's cruelty then at least for it's utter apathy towards your wellbeing.

I hate it when they love it because it's popular, not because it's good.

I think I've grown out of this stage by now. But I'm still being brick headed for some things. Like I will absolutely positively never buy a 360 because Microsoft offended me.
