Naw, just kidding, in all seriousness I treat the officers depending on how they treat me. If they walk up to me and act like a cocky asshole, I'll treat them the same way, then argue against the ticket in court. However, only the small minority of them are actually jerks and I tend to treat cops with the respect they deserve.

I do not respect people who enforce a regime that favors the rich and subsequently blames everything that is wrong in the world to underpriviledged youths whilst perpetually oppressing the same people who put them into power. They police force here is also extremely corrupt so fuck them with a stick.
The policing system is an extension of the law. Some laws are good in society while others are not. It's stupid to overgeneralize the policing system as either a good thing or a bad thing, just as it is foolish to overgeneralize the law as a good thing or a bad thing. Some cops are dicks. Some cops aren't. The same applies to laws. You should not follow authority for the sake of following authority, but because it is a just system that you approve of. If you are left questioning false authority, don't render yourself unto it. Evil prevails when good people do nothing. And like I said before, some cops are dicks, and some aren't.
My town's police force is very bored and has so little crime to deal with that abuse is their only means of enjoyment.

Most of the time. They're quite under-powered, considering some of the people they need to deal with.
Every now and then, though, they fuck up badly. Like when they detained and threatened to rape a Corrib Gas protester.

I respect the law and I also respect the police. The RCMP from my town are men/women I know in real life. They get no respect from most people from my area because the majority of them are idiots who are middle/high school dropouts who think they are gangsters, brainwashed by the media that glorifies crime and makes cops look ignorant and corrupt.
Not really. They are too busy giving me tickets for parking on a line in a parking lot, not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign in a deserted neighbourhood, and accusing me of having drugs in my car to actually stop people who are committing real crimes like murder and rape.
As an American who lives in North Carolina (the worst state btw), i tell you honestly that the police have never made me feel safe. You see in NC, cops get a bonus based on the number of speeding tickets and arrest that they make. Case in point, One day I'm out making my pizza delivery and a cop pulls up next to me with one of his head lights out. So i rolled down my window and told the cop his light was out. His response was verbatim as follows "You better roll up your window before i find a reason to pull you over." Cops in NC (at least every cop I've ever met) are giant pricks. Police in NC are one step shy of being run by the SS. They have every incentive to make arrest, because the department get a bonus if they do. Doesn't matter the people they arrest all get off clean, they don't get a bonus on convictions, just arrest and Speeding tickets.
This is where I agree. I think in inner city's of any country, not just Britain (like certain parts of London and other large city's) the main problem is, the way they probably see it - they're probably not that much worse off in a cell than they are normally. So that's why crime becomes a problem, since the consequences of jail isn't really that much.Dusty Fred said:

The riots here were a different case altogether and were provoked (as most riots are) and a re bloody hard to stop. But if I was behind a line of riot-cops against a crowd of people. I think I'd still feel safe. Our police force probably aren't as good as they've always been but they do their job.
Considering the immense amount of fuck-wad kids driving expensive cars their dad/mum bought them and act like total idiots on the road then people mourn them and say "he/she was a good kid"...
...not as often as I'd like to. No offence to those in the accidents ofc, but your son/daughter clearly wasn't smart or good if they're hooning at 150km/h+ in the rain, drunk driving with a crowded car with too much power. That's just sheer stupidity.
Then they try and book a normal teenager driver simply for driving normal and to them is "suspicious."
EDIT: On that note, what does irritate me with cops is they hound young drivers, despite there being at least 400% worse drivers who AREN'T teenagers. Yes I refer to the sleezy 30 year old stoner doing drug runs, or the mid 40's businessman running people off the road in his fancy-pants BMW, or the dreaded elderly with no sight and (sadly at times) logic and forget this is a 100km/h zone, not 40...
...or worse, driving on the opposite side of the read...

I have nothing against the police. They're men doing their jobs, and difficult ones at that. They definitely deserve a little more respect then they get. Yes, there are assholes in every police department, but not every single one is out to arrest you for the tiniest of infractions.
Respect is something that's earned, and for every good cop i can name i can name a racist cop who can't be trusted with an airsoft gun, let alone a fucking 9mm. A lot of them are too trigger happy with tazers and use them in situations where force isn't actually needed. But in the end... eh. Cops are preferable to anarchy i guess. That's not to say they don't need some more oversight.
Here in San Antonio, the police force are very professional, well trained, and do their jobs very well, in my area at least. There's a pretty astronomical crime rate, but if someone actually calls something in, the first car will be there in five minutes and backup within ten. I respect them quite a lot, and they have to put up with a lot of crap from the locals.
There are a few officers that don't deserve respect (racist, abusive, unfair, etc, but no one I've had to deal with) But I haven't seen them

The RCMP? For all the hate they get, they do a good job. Considering the sheer size of the country and irregularity of populations, Canada is doing pretty damn well in the crime department. If there are any RCMP officers here, keep it up!
South African... and hell no. I respected our anti-corruption unit before the president (who they were investigating) disbanded them... our normal police force? Can't spell, don't understand sanity in general, so much corruption from those who can spell... but our moving violation (not the speeding ticket, money-grabbing kind) and drivers are good, hear them racing around the block after maniacs very often, they never crash and they always catch them... small mercies I guess.
