My younger cousin recently moved in with me. She just transferred to one of the local colleges. She's okay, but she lives on the internet and her own computer got fried when one of her college friends spilled iced tea on it.

Now she's always using mine.

She's even visited the Escapist a few times.

*insert teeth grinding sound*

Don't worry. We're cool. We're not going to be bickering and flaming each other on this site. Especially since we'd have to do it from the same computer. She should only be using it until she can buy herself a new one. We're cool, really...we..we're cool...we...we...

But it's my computer!!! Mine!!! Mine-mine-mine-mine-mine!!!

So has this happened to the rest of you?

I don't share anymore and my relationship with my family has improved because of it.
No more fear of the computer being stolen while I use the bathroom, no more making a scheduled for computer use, and nobody interrupting me while I'm playing my video games
So glad I've got this computer

I let my girlfriend use my old computer when she comes over but nobody and I mean nobody touches my personal desktop. Password secured and everything even in my own home haha.

Some might say it's shady and they'd be right... I have some pretty sick stuff I don't want people seeing or even sharing with your escapist. JUST KNOW ITS FUCKED UP. Aaaannd I don't want morons messing around on my PC and downloading stupid crap.

Unfortunately, yes. My mom nabs my laptop all the time.

Though, hopefully, I'll be buying myself a new computer here soon, in which case I'll just give her my old one.

I live alone, so nobody uses mine. When I was younger, we all shared though, tough times when the Sims first came out...

I don't share with anyone. Even though there's only a little porn and a few funny images, I feel uncomfortable when others use my computer. It seems like an invasion of private space.

I used to have a family computer when I was in high school. That was tough cause it was in the living room, same room as the TV and the rest of the family. I'm trying to IM babes with my mom in the room, haha...

Yes, unfortunately.

To be fair, it's my older laptop and all my files/programs are on this computer that I am writing to you all at this moment, so it's not a big deal.

What is a big deal is that my older laptop has a Blu-Ray player built into it and it is in the hands of one-who-destroys-all-that-is-technology. Luckily, I've taken precautions to prevent such disaster from occurring, so I'm not too concerned.

Solution: set a password or just kick her off because its your damn computer.

Thank god I don't have to share with anyone I would go insane, I own a desktop and a laptop which only I use.

Once in a great while I will let someone use my computer if they need to. I always make sure to change my password just in case the person memorized it while I typed it in and I also have to be in the room with them and make sure they don't delete or uninstall something.

Nope! When I was living with my parents, it was such a pain to share a PC. When I moved out for college I got a laptop, and since then I have never looked back. I have a monster desktop and then a separate laptop for work now. My woman has her own desktop.

Ah, but she needs to do research, and check her 1 million and 1 email addresses. And what's the weather going to be for the next week (I don't watch enough TV to warrant getting cable, so no Weather Channel)?

I'm complaining too much. She's not really that bad. Mostly I'm not used to having a roommate. She's young enough to be my (much) younger sister, but old enough that she's an interesting conversationalist.

She'd better not bring any boyfriends home with her, though. My place isn't going to become party central.

Argh! Listen to me! I sound like a parent!

I just need to count the days until she can afford a new computer of her own.

I guess for fun I'll watch the water in this pot boil. :(

Every computer and/or laptop I have ever owned has been mine and mine alone to use, including my current ones. I will occasionally log in for a friend to use one of mine to play LAN games so they don't have to bother bringing their laptop over [The advantage of having multiple PCs in the house], and my dad used to have an administrator account on my PC for fixing any issues that popped up while I was younger, but now I handle it pretty much on my own. 'sides, no way I'd let someone use my PC for the Internet, they'd discover all my porn which I have conveniently hidden throughout my thousand or so favourite pages >.>

Incidentally, did you think to set her up with you own (restricted) user account on your computer and put a password on yours?

Used to have to share but given the amount of work I do on the computer (like actual work, not games and facebook and crap), having my own computer became a really high priority. At this point, sharing is really out of the question for me.

Universities generally have computers the students can use and failing that libraries often have them. Personally if I were you, if it bothered me that much I would limit the amount of time your cousin can spend on your computer, she can use the public computers if she needs more time. Or work out a schedule or something like that.

Nope, I paid for both of mine. They're MIIIIINE.

Everyone else in my family has two computers to themselves as well, so no issues.

(We're a computer-reliant family.)
