Do you think life is meaningless?

After dieing for the trillionth time in Persona 3, I actually read what Igor had said on the game over screen. He said...OK maybe I didn't read all of it but one sentence stood out from the rest.

"Life is but a journey to the grave."

This has got me thinking. Does this mean that in reality life is pointless? All the people you meet and all the things you have worked so hard to accomplish will be all for naught once you die. Sure, you could probably leave something for others to contemplate and remember you by, but in the end, they will just die too. Everything you do will undoubtley be forgotten. Remember the guy who cured polio, a disease that has left millions of people crippled? How about the guy who created the TV, a thing that most to all of us are watching right now? Remember how you just looked that up on a search engine website? Proves my point. ( And even if you did know without researching, didn't you have to REALLY think about it! Make sure you weren't wrong?)

So what do you guys think? Do you think that if give life this outlook, then that it really is no point in living for that matter?

Damn...I feel gloomy.

I had one of those crazy moments today where I couldn't stop questioning that exact thing. My answer is: well there is no answer, it's fair to say everything is pointless. It's also just easiest for me to say I'll live to enjoy what I can and call it a day.

Really Truly, no one can answer that. So what I do is I live my life to the fullest and I go from there.

OT:There is a point other wise why would there be anything in the first place.

You either follow a religious existence (For God), genetic imperative (advancement of the race/your own genetics), or nothing (Who cares?).

Worst choose your own adventure book ever.

Hooray for inadequacy!

Well, that's my problem anyway. Plus I'm also extremely paranoid about my school stealing my work.

Life has whatever meaning you give it, sure there's no real purpose for why we're here but that doesn't mean you can't give yourself a purpose.

"Life is meaningless. It is in death that we are truly tested!" - One of the four horsemen in Naxxramas.

Terrible game to quote? Maybe, but it sure seems like games like to show you how life is pointless, doesn't it?

Also: As an agnostic I don't know if there's an afterlife or not, but since there's a chance there isn't I like to assume that life has meaning.

I go with the general rule that the universe is pointless, so everything in it is as well. Rather than being depressing, I find this a liberating thought. It means you can give your life whatever meaning and goal you consider worth dedicating your life to. In the end, it doesn't matter, but you do leave something behind for future generations. This is in itself also pointless, but I consider it a decent goal to try and leave something behind to help future generations.

Yes life is meaningless, I find that marijuana helps put life into a different perspective. Find some way to enjoy life or kill your self right now rather than waiting.

I'm going to have to steal a line from the great comedian Joe Wong:

Life is like peeing into the snow on a really dark night; you probably made a difference, but it's really hard to tell.

Both yes and no. I don't believe there's an inherent meaning or purpose in the universe, but I believe that the happiness of sentient beings is the closest thing we have to one (basically, I'm a utilitarian).

Well it depends how you look at it. I mean, as trivial as this may seem, take eating a chocolate bar: that isn't pointless in your eyes. You did it for pleasure. Now if we take this to a much grander scale, something like settling down with the man/woman of your dreams, that certainly isn't pointless. I suppose it's easy to say 'well if it's all going to get taken away from us inevitably one day it's pointless', but again using the chocolate bar as an example: nothing lasts forever.

Well you defintly will fail school if you don't even try.

On to topic: If you look for a divine meaning of life I think you should just kill your brain and join one of the many religions out there. I would advise one that does not demand money from you.
If you just ask for a reason I'll pull a little Kirkegaard (a danish philosopher): 'does the bird in the sky need a reason to be carried on the wind? Does the lily on the field need a reason to bask in the sun? Is not the moment yet to be atained not reason enough to exist?'

I don't believe it has any inherent meaning, as people would want you to believe. Its not completely meaningless, but there just isn't a lot there. Just make of it what you will, nothing more, nothing less. Goes far enough for me at least.

Depends on what you mean.

Do we all have a grand purpose and does life have an inherent meaning?
No.
Biologically, life's purpose is to continue itself and go on as long as possible.
On the individual scale, you choose the meaning of your life and others' through your own lens of mental perceptions and personal decisions.

And people keep saying games are not art. At the very least they make us ask philosophical questions.
I have been thinking about that a lot in the past.
In the long run, life really doesn't matter. For yourself, yes. For other humans, yes.
But if you think about the universe as a whole and the timescale of that, earth, humanity and life subsequently just seems so meaningless.
I think it's all a matter of setting your goals. If you want to change the universe, then good luck on that one. But if you just want to live an enjoyable life, in the end, will your life really have been pointless? You would have accomplished all you ever wanted. Isn't that enough?
Who is the judge of what is meaningless and what not?

So yeah, my answer is this: It's all a matter of perspective and setting your goals.

That's my bloody point!
I wont try and I hate myself for it.
Are you sure you're not trying because you hate yourself?
