Do you think movies should be made into games, because lets be honest there are some films that are made to become games, you can tell. I mean, ok we can forgive George Lucas for film franchising but Indiana Jones just seemed like one ridiculous 'videogame-esque' sequence after another. Come to think of it, do you think games and films should ever mingle??

ADDED: I should also note that I am a great fan of the Indiana Jones films, but despite this I could not really enjoy the latest one, I think the whole getting into a fridge to escape nuclear explosions was a bit too much for me :p

No. You speak heresy.

On a less knee jerking note, I can't really think of any movies that would work well as games.

the only time movies should be made into games is when they put serious thought into making a game to go along with it before the movie is in production.

they should never be tacked on as an afterthought.

I've never played a good game that was based on a movie, but I've played plenty of good games that were based on movie licenses.

If a lot of thought and time is put into it, than I don't see why not. But most games are put out to add some more buzz and revenue for the movie. The Da Vinci Code game comes to mind immediately.

I certainly have nothing against the idea of video game movies in theory. In theory communism works, in theory
Unfortunately video game movies general fall in to 1 of 3 camps.

1.The poorly written low budget movie that hopes to get lucky and become a surprise hit or at least have the games fanbase watch it enough times to break even. (e.g. Mortal Kombat 2)

2.The poorly written actor/director ego stroking exercise that hopes to lucky and become a surprise hit or at least have the big name actor/director bring in enough people to break even. (e.g. Doom)

3.Any movie directed by Uwe Boll. (e.g. All of them)
Did I mention these are poorly written as well as poorly directed.

Sure movies should be made into games. It's just that they are always rushed shovleware affairs that come out when the movie is released and not when they have been properly refined into half decent games.

Movies in games can and, in rare occasions, has worked. Although once the pitch gets thrown out there all the mediocre companies try a shot while the other real companies are to busy to give 2 shits, because they are building our next fallout or assasian's creed or portal.

When a good company gets to work on it it can work though. But why care, every other 6year old twat and his mom are too twitched over to not only watch a disney movie about a superhero dog but play it too that the games easily out sell anything fresh and new- or good.

(Hmm, I just re-read that, maybe I shouldn't watch ZP before posting)

Absolutley. But they have to give us a decent story. Realise what works about a game. And why the game is popular. And not fuck about. Silent Hill worked very well as a movie. But WS Anderson can just fuck off.

NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

I mean...I would like writers to go out and do creative things not just go through the "Free Idea Box" of Video Games.

movies should be made into video games only if they are intended to be actual games with something to offer instead of just another thing to try to soak up money.

a good movie based game is one that is not mired in the plot of the movie, but one who takes same plot and expands on it, a sequel of sorts.

exactly. thats why i think watchmen: the end is nigh was a good move.

they decided to not focus on the actual story by making a sort of prequel to the main storyline that was only touched on in the book/movie.

Sure. Movies, books, TV series, poems, plays. Turn 'em into games. At least they're well written.

Turn them into good games. Don't turn them into bad games. That should go without saying, but unfortunately, doesn't.

Example of good game based on book/movie: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

I don't think many games would make good plots for movies. And what's good for a movie isn't for a game.
