Me and an xbox live friend were having a bit of a discussion last night. We were arguing whether Halo 4 will become like Call of Duty. His arguement was yes. And it was hard to disagree with him.

He pointed out Gears of war 3 as an example. Specifically, he pointed out that you could aim down the sights even though it was a third person game. He said that it shows that all the good games, even third person shooters like GOW, were trying to be more and more like COD and the same thing was going to happen to Halo.

I found it hard to disagree with him. Some of my friends say Halo Reach tried to be like COD. And Halo is now owned by microsoft. I can totally see them revamping Halo to be like COD.

What do you guys think?

That aim down the sights thing with GOW is just a special game mode. Kind of like the third person game modes in MW2.

And Call of Duty didn't turn into a third person shooter, so yeah.

Only one gun allows you to aim down the sights, the rest are the same form of aiming that has always been in Gears of War (which were out before the last three COD games), that is hardly "going COD", you can do it in Fallout for Christ sake.

It's the same genre, of course there are going to be similarities, and regardless of what people think, Halo was the big shooter before COD was, and Halo Reach has not changed all that much from what Halo Combat Evolved was.

So no, I don't think Halo is anything like Call of Duty. If it were then I wouldn't like it.

A multiplayer oriented game with a silly nonsensical joke of a story for a fairly short single player campaign and constantly churns out sequels that don't actually change anything about the mechanics at all.

It's already the same thing.

How can Halo go CoD? The modern CoD games are modified versions of Halo already, that would just be backwards. Also, the only thing CoD changed with aiming was the fact that you use the actual sight on guns aside from sniper rifles; Battlefield 1942 did essentially the same thing a couple of years before the first CoD came out, it's just that the aim button didn't actually push the camera down the sights. Think the original F.E.A.R., if you're ever played that.

i hope its not going the same route. As much as I dislike fanboy behavior I would never wish that their dream game series be destroyed in such a painful way. Either just stop the sires or make a good sequel along the same lines as the previous games.

Well now that Bungie is out of the race MS will just outsource the franchise to anyone that can make a modern shooter and then just slap on the Halo name, and it would sell like hotcakes.

Why the heck not, modern shooters make good money and with the Halo name there is no shortage of fans willing to buy it all.

No. People buy Halo because it's halo. If they wanted to buy CoD, they'd buy CoD. I htink Microsoft is smart enough to realise this; you can't compete against CoD by imitating it, it has to do its own thing.

EDIT: Also, only 5 posts before the first silly little hater? I am disappoint. I remember one thread where it only took ONE post.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
I doubt it, ms was smart enough not to make a halo movie as just a quick cash in so I dont think they will totally change the halo formula to try and copy cod

I mean the game is already kind of copying cod by having short single player and putting most of the focus on multi

I'm sincerely hoping there isn't another Halo. The story is over it's time to move on and experience a new franchise.

Halo has a completely different formula, and considering most people who work at 34 studio's are Ex Bungie employee's i highyl doubt it will turn into a COD clone.

If anything most other games copy of Halo and COD...but they don't copy eachother.

You clearly have not played much Halo. ALOT has changed since the first.

That's incorrect. 343 studios is continuing the Halo franchise.

OT: No, I don't. Halo has a good thing going, it doesn't need to take any pointers from CoD.

Since when was aiming down the sights a CoD thing? I like CoD and all, but it gets way too much credit. It deserves some but not the amount it gets. And I'd rather it go Rainbow six style ( if you want to call it that, even though it didnt create this system its popular enough people would know about) With buying armor gives you more or less speed/armor. Thats really it, since I want to pick weapons up in Halo, not spawn with them fully decked out.

Let's see.

You can dual wield previously useless one handed weapons, and uh...your health regenerates?

Urm...Call of duty took that from Halo, not the other way round, and Health regenerates in near enough every game, at least in Reach they included the health kits again.

If your going to criticise it, at least have valid points
