Recently i've been getting told to shut up in my classes for vocalising problems that i'm trying to solve. after being told i've noticed that i'll talk to myself and do weird hand waving things as i try to visualise what it is i'm trying to work out.

So my question to you is do you do anything similar to help you solve problems?

Yeah, I do it. I keep my voice to a small whisper though. I'm quiet enough that it doesn't bother anyone. Or at least, nobody has told me it bothers them.

I'm my own therapist.

I ask myself problems out loud and answer them in my thoughts.

If I'm alone of course. If someone is available, hell yeah get their opinion on the matter.

If I'm in public and no one I feel like talking to is around, keep those thoughts in my head. I don't like people talking around me, I'm sure they wouldn't appreciate it.

Vocalize problems? Not really, I just keep quiet and tell people "Everything's good".

I work out MY problems on MY time. Keeps other people friendly.

Except for the hand waving, I do the same thing. It's taken a hell of a lot of work to get under control so I don't piss people off, many of whom are less than kind about it. ...and rather hypocritical too now that I think about it. Specifically there's this girl in my class who got rather pissy with me for talking out loud to myself while I work. But now I find she likes to talk to her friends excessively loud when I'm trying to work. ...fucking *****...

All the time. Sometimes I scare myself because I realize just how crazy it makes me look.

Yes. I always am either talking to myself or solving problems aloud. I tend to monologue to myself as well, and that makes for some interesting stares. My ex thought it was hilarious that I never noticed I was doing it, and I honestly didn't.

I go "BLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!"

Oh, you mean do I vocalize my problems? No, not too often. Everyone gets mad at me.

Wait, you mean like homework problems? Oh. No, not beyond humming.

Doctor What highfives a Time Lord?

That was about two letters away from a potential paradox.

All the time, it help a lot to make tackling problems an enjoyable experience. I get really crazy about it sometimes, using all sorts of tones of voice and gestures to make some point to an adjacent wall.

I do the hand waving thing when I talk my way through a problem, though I like to call it by its proper name gesticulating. I just love that word, but I tend not to do it in front of other people. It seems to be a more private thing to me, but I do still do it when I am doing a construction project on my house.
