Sometimes when I've left the escapist for a day or so after posting in the forums, I dread logging back in to find i have about 10 new messages of people flaming me for what i posted. Does anyone else get that same feeling?

Nope.
I really look forward to logging in, because seeing messages in my inbox makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. I feel noticed and appreciated.
But then I open my inbox and see that it's all newsposts from user groups I am a member of -.-
(I'm looking at you, mlp:fim)

I only get this when the guys in a group I'm a part of decide to have a several hour long conversation in the chat. So I'll come back with 70+ messages.

No, but when I see "12 new messages" I know shit's going down. I pulled a joke awhile back linking to the 'view-your-own-profile' page in a thread of your most hated person... I think I got to 30 from that, some mod suspended me, I argued and it got revoked. Credit to Pimppeter2 for the idea :>

If you're getting 10+ messages from one post, consider using extra tact...

Anyways, I love getting messages, as it makes me not feel like a forum ghost. And of course, I love getting "OMG WAT YOUR AVATAR AAAAAAAH" reactions.

Considering how I'm not really obliged to reply to any given message (seriously, there have been a few times where I simply can't be bothered and just end up forgetting about it, usually when I've been tired or have just woken up in the morning) I don't particularly dread that.

In fact, I view the more aggressive and hate filled messages as something of a challange to be overcome (I love argueing).

Occasionally, yes, because it's never fun to have someone shit on your opinion, and since this is the internet, that happens a lot.

Yes, everytime I see the new message bit I think, "Urgh, whos taken the time to tell me how wrong I am this time?". Its nice when Im gently surprised when I see its a positive response. :p

Not really, I feel dread before I log on. Each time I have to wonder whether or not I'm going to beat the huge ass full screen ad opening to get into my account. I don't get quoted often...

Oh yes, very much. Usually it's just someone replying humourously on a lighthearted thread, but I get people angrily disagreeing with me often enough to warrant the nerves that come with Inbox Russian Roulette.

True.

I do agree, yet I'm more inclined to see my profile to see if I still have a clean record (I don't like to offend people, I'm very careful for what I say).

Same for me.

Whenever I see that I have messages I like to see what someone used my quote for. The very first time someone used a quote of mine, it was to chew me a new one for my opinion, and quite frankly I wanted to respond, but I didn't. I will never respond to someone insulting me, because that's what they want you to do.

I admire your attitude, because I don't like to offend people either, unless they offended me first, in which case, I desire nothing greater, which can often lead to a lengthy passive-aggressive discussion. If you can quash that desire to respond, you have quite a high level of self control.

I just blocked group messages, because I like knowing when I have thread-relevant messages.

OT: I look foward to having messages.

No, Sticks and Stones.

And if I am being flamed I just ignore it. If someone debates against me I am interested. And sometimes I think to myself "man was I wrong on this topic!"

Yes, yes, yes yes yesyesyesyesyesyesyesyesyesyes.

YES.

My new system is, after an extended period of being offline, deleting every message without opening it. Then avoiding the thread, if it's still on the front page. I feel your pain, bro, I feel it.
