I'm curious because no one I've asked has ever heard of bands like The Blend and Flobots who are in my opinion both intelligent and creative. My apologies if this thread has been created before I did a quick search but it may not have been as thorough as it could have been.
Oh and if anyone wants to suggest any bands it would be fantastic as I'm new to the genre.
I would be shocked if it was on any other forum than this one, as I know how many metal heads there are here.
I've also never heard of The Blends but anyway, Flobots education time:
Flobots are a kind of rap/ rock/ folk seven piece act, who sing mainly songs about politics, corruption in society and rebellion. Think of them as a softer version of RATM or SOAD possibly.
Possibly their most famous song, this song is about how creative mankind can be, as well as how destructive we can be. Made extremely popular by the first and final line "I can ride my bike with no handlebars, no handlebars, no handlebars. I can ride my bike with no handlebars, no handlebars, no handlebars."
The music video describes two friends who go different paths in life. One lives a life of peace and being at one with nature, the other a life of corporation, and eventually becomes a political leader. He then starts to destroy the other one's world, at which point people start rebelling, and at a presidential speech, the president sees his childhood friend shot before his eyes. Whilst one of them represents the life of peace and happiness, the other represents politics and business, possibly meaning to show that the two can't exist in the same world.
This is the only other single the group have released so far, and in my opinion, the better of the two. This song is about working together to make the world a better place, and fight for justice and equality, thus the line that makes up the whole chorus, "Together we rise."
The music video is a recording of them performing at a live gig and also footage of them amassing a protest outside an army base. Not much to say about that one really.
Anyway, as you can probably guess, I like them and some other live rap stuff as well. If you want any other bands, there's Mongrel and also The King Blues do some rap but not much.
But be careful when it comes to rap here I'll say. Rap isn't really a favoured genre here (Mainly because of the mainstream stuff), metal is really. But anyway, welcome to the Escapist!

no worries I'm a metalhead to the core! I just like to balance my music out and this genre seems to have some intelligence behind it which is always a plus.
and thanks for the warm welcome
And that is one of the joys of the internets, if you forget something, no matter how small, someone will be quick to point out your error. I am just glad to be of service.
