Does anyone else think Postal 2 was a really fun game?

I'd like to have enjoyed the game, I really would. It's just that the premise of the game was consistently violated. I wasn't a normal guy going about my normal life doing normal things complete with normal frustrations that I may, from time to time, choose to resolve through ultra-violence. I was a normal guy who got stuck into mandatory uninteresting shooter sections regularly.

It was basically a bad shooter with inconsistent level design with hilariously bad pacing as a result.

That said, the can of gas and pack of matches is my favorite weapon in the history of video games.

Postal was pretty damn fun, Cruel and as over the top as any other game but thats why I like it. It stood up to things other companies wont touch and it didn't back down. Plus something about using a cat as a silencer makes me proud.

I think it is one of the best games i ever played.
It's about the choices.

You CAN taser someone till he pissed himself and cryes for his momy,
you CAN decapitate someone with a shovel and play footbal with his head,
you CAN kill everyone you see,
BUT you don't have to !

It was sayed bevore:
You can win most levels without even fire a shot.
Or like in the difficulty "Hestenworld" just fire in the air, everyone gets panic, pull his gun out and the slaughter begins.
After 2 minutes, you pop your head out and walk freely, because everyone is dead, and you didn't kill one.

And of course the humor and satire.
Like on election day, pissing on dads grave. Sure, most people think this is just violence and bad behavior, but like we say here in germany : To recognize satire, it needs a inelligent man.

It is a filthy lie. Every single day has a mandatory violent segment that highlights the fact that the game is a bad FPS with poor pacing. They needed to decide if they were making a game where violence was an option but never necessary or a game where violence was expected to be a common way to resolve problems and balance the game accordingly.

Lies.

there is NO part of the game where you MUST kill someone, you CAN force that state, but that's YOUR fuck up to begin with.

Once I'm back from work (about 8PM GMT) I'd LOVE to hear about the mandatory violence segments.

BTW I am aware Apocalypse Weekend DOES contain these segments, this doesn't count, as it is an expansion pack.

I think it definitely had it's moments but I can see why a lot of people wouldn't like it.
Personally I enjoyed it. The whole Gary Coleman thing is kinda uneasy now though.

It was fun in small doses, if I played it for more than an hour.. I felt.. uneasy to say the least.

I love it because it was random and had no point.

And if you used it correctly it could be a nice stress reliver.

I suppose you are correct. I could have simply tried not dying when armed lunatics raid RWS in the first day. I suppose that when the church is overrun with terrorists when I confess my sins I could just try to run to the end of the level. I suppose once ambushed by rednecks I could simply run down a corridor full of armed enemies while desperately trying not to die and refusing to defend myself. I suppose I could avoid murdering people when trying to get meat - a task made difficult by the fact that the butcher will endeavor to turn you into meat.

I mean, I suppose I'm free to do that sort of thing in most FPS games aren't I? After all, unless progress is actually impossible without killing someone it is always technically possible to get from one point to another without a murder isn't it? But, I don't think that's quite in the spirit of choice now is it? Because, in a game where I'm placed deep in hostile territory with no real capacity for stealth or alternate routes, not fighting is a choice in much the same way that mashing the quick save and quick load while you trial and error your way though is a choice.

Every single day in the game features a segment where you are placed in a situation where your only reasonable hope of survival is shooting people. I'll grant you that monday's mandatory violence is simply encouraged violence as the RWS employees can do all the murdering for you if you're careful. Yes, the other tasks you are given during the day can be accomplished without violence, and during these segments the game is quite brilliant. It is those stupid extra segments that make me hate the game because, while important for the "narrative", it just becomes another silly shooter that isn't actually a lot of fun when everyone else is well armed.

I never said it was easy, just it was possible.

RWS is easy, make it the last task, run out the back, straight to the loadzone.

terrorists are easy too, first door on your left, off the balcony, down the stairs, out the doors, loadzone.

Rednecks are pretty easy, if you just keep spronting, they blow themselves up 9 times out of 10, and if the worst comes to the worst, you can glitch through half the level.

the meat is fun, but not impossible, ditto the mail building. you've just gotta know what to do to get a pacifist run.

having said that, in lots of FPS games, you HAVE to kill everything in front of you, serious sam springs to mind. so the killing shouldn't be too much of a shock,

It was one of those Funny-at-the-time forgettable shooters, but unique nonetheless.

It's goofy, fun, and original. I loved and was amazed at all the weapons and the missions were actually interesting...for the most part. Getting Milk was a pain in the ass, but still. I had fun, so to me it is a fun game. I liked Dudes voice for the most part, and while it is over the top, and insulting to almost everyone, I found it enjoyable. Would I now? For an hour or so prolly. I just don't think it was TERRIBLE.

Yeah, I liked it very much. It's got therapy written all over it! I don't know what it is, but most of the more recent games all seem so well behaved and PC compared to this.. why can't they make a thing like this anymore? (And no, don't tell me postal 3. I didn't like what I saw.)

I love it. It's not the best game ever though. Also, it could just be my overinfalted sense of context and thought that I ascribe to games but I've never felt like the game was just made for the sense of being cathartic. It's always come across to me as pretty biting satire on the controversy of violent games.

I've bought both Postal games the day they came out and will continue to support that company.
