It's getting to me that now people are more focus on three then what they should be. The Two there making. What I mean is like Bioware talking about Dragon Age 3 before they even have Dragon Age 2 out the door. Does this ever end will. Look what happend to the Matrix. We got to be continued. Even in school we where told focus on this class not the test in the next. Just more and more I see bad games like 50 cent game get sequels like they planned it before they even know what they where going to make. Everyone seem like there in such a rush to make a franchise they forget to make something anyone want to spend money on. As always please leave your views or thoughs. That why I leave these here. maybe you'll see something I don't.

It kinda seems logical to me to be thinking 2 or 3 games ahead. I mean you already have the team who by the end of the first game probably work together fairly well. You already have the base engine. Sure it will need to be tweaked but look at how many games use the unreal engine. You got the engine, you got the staff, you have the premise for the games. You have people who are invested emotionally into the series working on it. It seems like a waste to spit out the game and start handing out the pink slips doesn't it? I just think they should learn to keep their traps shut every once in a while. We don't need to know everything all the time. Give us time to enjoy what we have before making promises about the future releases.

Remember that "out the door" is different for developers than for you. I have no idea about DA2 specifically, but most games are completely done months before we see much of them at all. They have to be pressed, packaged, and, most of all, advertised.

So, many of the studios that are talking about 3 just as you're waiting for 2 are talking about it because they're done with 2 and are already working or about to start work on 3.

I would LOVE IT if Valve focused on the number 3 more. Ha, see what I did there.
They totally are, they're making Left 4 Dead 3.

See what I did there?

(It's funny and sad at the same time, because that's way more likely to happen than that other 3.)

You have a point there. I guess at this point the swords done it just needs a blade and polish so to speak. Still let see how 2 does before we worry about 3. Remember They where talking about Alpha Procal 2 also and look how that went. Just feels like polition campaining for his next term before he/she know if anyone will vote for them. Focus on the here and now there might not be a tomorrow. Do you kinda understand what I'm saying.
(Side note I know polition do this all the time.)

I understand what you mean, but I'm just saying keep in mind that the here and now is very different for developers. They know 2 will sell well enough to get a sequel green-lit (I imagine it was already green-lit alongside 2) and creating games is their job. They don't just get to sit back while the game is advertised and distributed, they need to start work on the next project, which is often the next game in the series.

That said, there are certainly developers who do seem to focus a lot more on the future than on what they're doing/can do in the present, which is, I agree, obnoxious. You see this a lot with games that are intended to start a series. They get advertised as such and the developers talk about how great the future games will be before the first one is launched. As opposed to something like Dragon Age where the series is already successful enough to warrant a third game even before the second comes out, situations with a wholly untested series can get really dumb (I'm looking at you Advent Rising).

Yeah I guess my real beef is when they don't finish the story. Doing it in bits and peices. Like that game where you could get the trinkt out of the vending mechins Shemuno or some such. They have 1 2 and it seems like they will never get out 3. Or like I said Alpha point at two that never came. Finish this one and we will see if there a next. Don't tell me you where not ticked when halo 2 endded on a cliff hanger. Or you won't be if Dragon Age does.

I wasn't and I won't be. Both of those series are established and neither is going anywhere anytime soon.

The problem is games that set up a cliffhanger in the FIRST game of a proposed series. Games like Advent Rising are based around a whole series before establishing themselves. It was fine for Halo 2 to end on a cliff hanger because, given the success of the first game, we already knew that there would surely be a Halo 3 even before 2 was done.

The problem isn't looking too far into the future, it's assuming too many things about an uncertain future. If you KNOW you're getting another sequel, then a cliffhanger isn't really an issue.
