Does anyone have any book recommendations for a fan of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy?

Infinity Welcomes Careful Drivers and Better than Life are both pretty decent.
(Both are Red Dwarf books, but don't require being into the series to be enjoyed.)

There's also Good Omens, which I rather liked.
Yes, I was going to say that. Fantastic, and rather similiar style of comedy to Hitchiker's guide.

If it hasn't been said 'good omens' by terry pratchett and neil gaiman.
I second this recommendation. I have read this book at least four times over; it's that good.

Try Slaughterhouse 5 by Kurt Vonnegut (fuck it, read anything by Kurt Vonnegut). It's wildly funny but it's also quite clever, if a bit abstract.

Bill Bryson is probably a good bet, not really the same subject matter, but he's funny as hell. A Short History of Nearly Everything is great if you still want something sciencey, but The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid is my favourite. It's his memoirs of being a child in the 50's, it's probably the most cheerful book ever. What I really love about it is that he frequently presents things through his eyes as a child, with his alter-ego, The Thunderbolt Kid, and fantasizing about vapourizing annoying people. It's not so much zany, but it's funny, cheerful and relaxed.

You would like a book called the Long earth by terry pratchet and stephen baxter.

Kinda similar to Hitchikers guide in terms of humour and story. There is also a character who died and was resurrected as computer who plays a big part of the story.

You could try John Kennedy Tooles "A Confederacy of Dunces."

It's got quite a few chuckles and it's a really good book.
How did I not think of this!? It's one of my favorite books of all time. So good, everyone should read this.

The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster. Definitely a very easy read, being a children's book and all that jazz, but still one of the most clever books I've ever read! For the relatively little amount of time finishing it would take, I would definitely recommend it!
