Does anyone on the Escapist use a Mac?

My dad is an Apple fanboy; you couldn't get him to purchase a Windows machine even if you paid for it yourself.

So, until I get a job and buy a PC on my own, I'm stuck with a Mac. I have no problems with the OS itself, but there are so many games I'm missing out on...

That made me really laugh considering that ad they had a while ago where the person said they couldn't turn their windows PC on and it was SOOOOO easy on a mac. I will never understand why people defend Macs. They are undeniably overpriced, impossible to repair, upgrade or customise yourself, made from the same parts as other PCs apart from the case. If it's a matter of software, then it isn't too hard to get all of that software running on a normal PC, and still have it cheaper. I don't have a problem with people liking or using macs, I just don't get it.[/quote]

I never understand those mac lovers who claim macs never get viruses. The only reason they don't get the ones windows does is because they don't run on macs because they aren't built for them. I'm happy about the flashback virus which was in the news a few days ago, they can no longer claim macs never get viruses.

Theres also the mac fanboys who claim the best media work is done on macs...another group i can't help but sigh, i wonder if they realize that all the big software for media design is on both platforms and there both designed to work well it just depends on the hardware set up you have.

Anyway, I hate using Macs. I always like to think that using a Mac is like using a toaster; you press a button, and either shit works, or it doesnt. When using Windows you press a button, shit never works, but you can at least fix it yourself. And Linux just confuses the hell out of me.

I think I have just gotten so used to Windows over the years, anything else seems crappy to me.

Love the analogy, though I must say, my Mac (I call it Corporal Benedetto Lapsworth) almost invariably works.

I adore my Mac.The only issue I've found is trying to find good wallpapers for a 27" screen. But that's hardly a complaint.

I attempted to use a Mac the other week at uni while waiting for my mate to finish her work....never again....nothing would maximise to the full screen, the mouse was terribly slow even when i maxed the sensitivity, the keyboard was too thin (too much like laptops), not to mention the buttons to turn it on are on the back what genius designed that (i had to get my friend to tell me how to turn it on).


I don't see the appeal, i went in to my first experience with an open mind and now i know i will never use Mac, i'd rather use linux and thats saying something considering i don't like that because of the lack of support (fine otherwise).

There just an overpriced pc that tries to sell itself as a virus free enviroment, the best media machine and user friendly. I think i'll stick to Windows it works alot better or at least it does for me even in the Adobe Suite enviroment.

It's more about what you want out of a computer. If you want to play games made by any dev other than Blizzard or Valve, or if you want to modify and micromanage everything, then DO NOT get a Mac. If you want a computer that works well straight out of the box, then consider a Mac. I personally prefer the OS to Windows, and I'm not really into PC gaming. Mouse and keyboard feels less natural and immersive.

PC:s are better for gaming purposes and cheaper. Macs are good for other things, but I would not want one. ^^

Just a tip if you don't already know but try searching the App Store for something called Wallpapers HD Lite. The free version allows you to download up to 5 wallpapers a day and I'm sure that the majority on there can be downloaded at 2560x1440. I'm sure there will be at least a few you like!

OT: I bought a macbook last November and I've never had a bad thing to say about it since. It's more than capable of acting as my main computer as well as a laptop that I can use in college. It can run programs like Adobe CS5 software very well and it has a good graphics card if I ever wanted to game on it. However, I normally run windows if I ever feel like gaming and compared to a gaming PC or laptop, its no where near as good and more expensive. It all depends on what you primarily use your computer for I guess.

You couldn't afford a laptop but you could afford an ipad? I'm REALLY confused.

I've had my laptop for four years, when I couldn't afford a Mac. It's not the healthiest laptop in the world at the moment and I didn't want to buy a new one. Getting an iPad and keeping my laptop worked out cheaper for me.

Nope. Mainly because you get the specs on a Windows PC for about 1/4 of the price of a Mac. I do admit, they look pretty.
