Does "c**ks*c*ker" qualify as hate speech?

One of my favorite swear words (so much a favorite that I reserve it for special occasions) is the term "cocksucker." I don't use it to describe gay people necessarily, but just as a general putdown (granted, of people not in the room at the time). However, I realize it's roots are most likely in denigrating homosexuals. As Lenny Bruce put it, it's a word that described "a very good woman or a very bad man." I can understand why fag is a anti-gay slur, since it relates specifically to gay men. I also feel it's a generally unpleasant sounding word in of itself. I never liked being called a fag and I don't like to hear other people called fags. "Cocksucker" has such a rhythm and cadence to it that I don't want to let that word go. It's a fun word, not to mention a fun act. As a point of context (without giving a graphic autobiography), I've enjoyed both giving and receiving this activity, but I don't identify myself as "gay." Discuss!

"Hate speech" is an idiotic form of nomenclature that needs to be put down like the retarded pandering monkey it is.

So no.

"Hate speech", no, but it certainly could be read as an anti-gay slur. Also, it's pretty sex-negative.

Saying that it is anti gay would be silly since woman are free to suck dicks if not for the fact that it is rarely used to refer to a woman. Especially since whore is far more all encompassing and go to for slack jawed teenagers who sling these words around.

Of course I always assumed cock sucker was akin to little ***** since I have messed up views of oral and anal sex. Seriously one person is receiving and one person is giving, it seems more a degrading act in and of itself since there is a mild domination/submission undertone involving them.

Damn i'd hate to know what you think of pussy licker.

OT: nope it just refers to someone that likes to suck penis . Girls and guys like this practice so it is in no way degrading gay men .

Context is everything, though it definately can be used in a derogatory manner as can any form of profanity, but the context is what needs to be kept in mind.

Not necessarily an anti-gay thing, it's more about perceived submission.

Mind you, it would depend on how it is used. Calling a man that would certainly seem to imply that, and that it is wrong.

well, anybody could perform that action so it can't be just anti-gay.

Like mentioned its more of a dominance thing than a gay thing.

Don't care. I like to say it, and I like having it done to me, and don't care if what I say offends someone. I generally use racial slurs, but only because I respect gay men and women, and think that, uh, um, "diggers" are stupid. BUT, I lived in a ghetto for a year, and I know that the blacks are much more fun than white people.

Sucking a dick is often thought of as demeaning, submissive, and meek. Sure, some may not see it this way, but there's no denying that most of the pleasure from it goes to the one receiving the blow job.

Ergo, calling someone a cocksucker is equivalent to calling them weak or only worthy of giving satisfaction to others. It doesn't really have much to do with being gay.

But really, as with any insult, intent is the most important thing.

Technically I guess it would (if you painted it in blood on the locker of the school's token gay kid, or made the mistake of saying it in front of someone who was forced at gunpoint to suck a guy off), but so do alot of words

http://www.cracked.com/article_16967_8-racist-words-you-use-every-day.html

What people tend to forget nowadays is that terms like cocksucker, fag and even the dreaded n-word have fallen into the general lexicon. So in my book you can feel free to keep insulting people, gay or straight, by telling 'em they can suck one off.

If it isn't homophobic then it's a pretty stupid thing to denigrate. What guy wants it to have negative connotations?

"anti-gay" is not the first thing that comes to mind, I think of "anti-woman." I think this and other insults that are based on putting down women for things that guys generally want women to do for them are ridiculous.

So, unless you think fellatio in general is a bad thing that should not happen, I do not think you should use that term in a negative way.

Well, I'm all for equality for all sexual orientations, and as so not very fond of homophobia and the slurs thereof, but I still do blurt it out once or twice when I'm frustrated. I did it an hour or so ago, actually. But I didn't yell that to the Draugr Dragonpriest because I think he's gay, sucks cocks and is a worse person for it. It was just an interchangable insult that I happened to blurt out because I was getting very angry.
(And honestly, considering he floated around like a flippin' cork in a storm and none of my swordblows even registered before he instantly dashed off a kilometer and spammed frost spells at me and used up every single of my bleedin health potions... Yeah. *Ahem)

It certainly can be used as an anti-gay slur, considering its meaning, but to me, it's mostly just one of the more severe cusses in your vocabulary. I really don't consider it hate speech at all. It's a rather strong word, and should be used in moderation. But hell, I'm guilty of bagpipe-tooting myself, so it'd be a bit silly for me to actively and actually insult people for doing that, or consider them worse.

Well, the thing is, sex can (and often do) include domination/submission undertones, but that doesn't mean that you're not equals, or that you don't love and respect each other anyway. It's just bedroom-business, and carried out by two people who do respect each other, it's not the least bit degrading. And hell, giving and taking is what it's all about, if I may sound a bit like a CSI-villain for a moment.

when the hell did it become an anti gay slur?

Good lord. I went through my formative years in the 90s, and this was a heavily swear, and despite the meanings of the words, in my neck of the woods, it never had any homosexual connotations. Although, to be honest, "******" never really had anything to do with being homosexual, either.
