(to skip some potienialy boring ranting, answer the simple question: Does current gen glorify last gen?)

We all have those games that we fire up an old console for. That game that, despite its appeareance/mechanics/story still rocks. We even have old consoles that we may argue are better than current consoles. And in some cases, this may be true. But sometimes we're just wrong, and we cant realise it.

So why do we blindly argue this? This is commonly known as nostalgia. An odd and mystical force that blurrs our vision. That fuzzies our minds. What I want to know is why does the last gen become so beatiful the second it becomes last gen?

I play mainly old games, but I can argue it ISN'T for nostalgia's sake, because I play a number of games I didn't have when I was younger. I honestly like older games (especially the PS2 era) than new games, not to say that new games are bad. I just don't prefer them

It wasn't and it isn't. Games that where good then are still good (with few exceptions), and still fun to play.

I don't know about you but I am little to old for nostalgia to be kicking for for a generation that just expired about four years ago (except with the PS2 where some games are still planed for release on the system in 2011).

Because all the new kids grown up will never actually play them. And if they do, and they say it sucks, you can just shake your head all high-and-mightily and comment that they've never experienced anything deeper than modern warfare 2. It just makes you feel older and wiser.

I play recent games and only on rare occasions do I play a couple classics. I prefer modern games (most of them at least) because the tech is better, no other reason. Example? Halo: Reach even though that's from just playing the beta. I even stop playing Halo 3 just because Reach felt 100 times better and it ruined 3 for me... have to wait for Reach to come I guess. lol

Possibly.

Or maybe things really are getting worse. Nothing stays good forever. There will be a generation of gamers who see the crest. Might be us. Might not. Impossible to know at this point.

Note that personaly, I don't think I've been blinded by nostalgia. I do know that there are some games I recalled far more fondly before I replayed them. But it seems like nowadays me and my friends spend more time playing/talking about last gen and retro consoles. Well, at least my non-narrow minded friends

I recently rebought a ps2, and am looking forward to rocking it. In fact, having a kkind of tournament tomorrow. Just wanted to see what others thought
