Does Deus Ex: Human Revolution get better?

But people do sometimes just have different tastes. If you think there's an enjoyable experience there, tell me what it is instead of telling me it'll appear if I give it a one week break.

You've proven that this thread is completely pointless. Under the guise of wanting to know if Deus Ex: Human Revolution gets better (it does), you've really created a thread to bash the game and point out how people are so quick to force their opinions on others.

If that's the point of the thread, then: Sure we're all egocentric to a degree and have a hard time accepting people don't like things that we love.

If you really want to know if the game gets better, well yes, it does. At first, I hated Adam Jensen and I was put off by the game. The game seemed too linear for what it was described as: a game of choices. However, once I started to gain more augs, it became a game of choices. I suited the game to my play style with the different augs and it became a lot of fun. I enjoyed the story and how the environments told smaller stories within themselves. The game narrated the world in many different ways which I found to be interesting.

As for Adam, I learned to tolerate him. I stopped hating him but never really "loved" him as a character. He gets better but that may just be the amount of time I spent with him.

Malik, her name is Malik. Yes, she is the best character in the game.

Well, you could play the first game. 6 times cheaper and in my opinion at least 6 times better. If that doesn't get you into the series, you know human revoulution will be a useless buy.

I see. Well, I'm certainly glad that it gets better. I'm not sure if it's worth picking it back up. But I'm glad should I do so, it'll hopefully improve.

Well if you don't like it there's not much we can do about it. Try playing the game differently. Maybe you were choosing the wrong augmentations in the beginning that didn't make the game play as you wanted to. You really need a couple of augmentations that make the game really awesome. Like Icarus landing system and CASIE mod. Don't take my word for it. That's what I upgraded first. I also never unlocked the cloaking system because I wanted a real stealth challenge.

I found Adam to be one of the least macho characters in recent games, barring his ludicrous Christian Bayle Batman voice. Also considering Deus Ex:HR is a stealth game (at least the way I play) and I normally hate stealth stuff, I thought it was rather spiffy.

But hey, at least you tried a game outside of your normal comfort zone. Most never will. Out of interest what is your normal gaming pleasure?

The game does get better as you go on, but it won't get better for you because this game is not for you (just like you tried to tell your friends).
You seem to simply not like the core concept of DEHR's gameplay or the who the character is, and the game isn't going to completely change what it is when you get to the 50% story mark or something.

I would say try some side quests and get out of the first visit to detroit and onto heng sha, or that is what I would say to someone who didn't hate the core mechanics and the main character, and the setting.

Final Fantasy game are good, but I don't like them because of the same reasons you dont like DEHR. They are not bad games they just were NOT FOR ME, just as DEHR is simply NOT FOR YOU.

First time through I played on Give Me A Challenge, and it took a LOT less than twelve shots for me to die.

I really like the game on the points you mentioned. I like the characters, the depth, every single bit of the design, the conversations, the moral choices you get (and the fact that the thing I would say is an actual option).

My only complaint is the aiming. It's a bit awkward and sluggish. However, this can be easily avoided if I play stealth. Sure, I'll be forced into gunfights every now and again (when I screw up), but it's not like their main mechanic troubles me.

The conversation wheel is starting to feel a bit overused. It was brand new for me when I played the first mass effect. Since then i've seen the conversation system in mass effect 2, the witcher , the witcher 2, dragon age origins, dragon age 2. The conversation depth doesn't go as far as other games, but the personality based response system was refreshing. All in all the rpg side of Deus Ex HR felt unoriginal,the atmosphere of 2027 felt a bit depressing and the characters depth never went beyond the length of the mission. In ME2 you could have private conversations that furthered the characterization of your squad mates in between missions. Deus Ex scraps the people you meet the instant you finish your side quests.

The game lets you accomplish goals in a plethora of ways, however the story is totally linear. Ive been spoiled by The Witcher 2 where the last 2/3rds of the game is totally different based on choices made in the first 1/3.

The worst aspect of Deus EX is the boss fights. There are creative ways to kill every boss, but the game gives no hints to direct the player towards them. Going the typical method of take cover and shoot is very frustrating. Some of the bosses feel near impossible at times without knowing before hand the special techniques to deal with them.) (esp the third boss). The end is good but could be a little more...well i'll let you finish it for yourself.

All that said Deus Ex has a very interesting setting and is a good game without many sloppy glitches. The combat was good and the story is engaging...just don't expect much depth in the characters you meet.

Edit: I just want to add that the choices felt extremely limited. There were times people begged me to bust them out of jail but I had no choice in the matter. In another quest taking money and letting a corrupt cop walk or capturing him had no impact on the story. The only difference was whether or not I got an achievement. Lastly how about a reward aside from generic credits. Credits and more Credits, even when I have over 16k Credits the only reward ever is credits...and the rare praxis point.

The Augmented Edition just seems like a waste of money. The main attraction was the extra 10k credits you get early but the catch is you cant use the credits early. There are max 3 praxis at Limb from first lvl and you'll have enough without the bonus. At the end of the game I had credits to spare w/o the Aug edition.

Im on the fence about the DLC...the last dlc I bought was Legacy for Dragons Age 2 and it was way to short, didnt add anything to the story or character development and overpriced.

Again I enjoyed Deus Ex HR, but it didnt hold up to Mass effect 1 and 2, Dragons Age Origins or Witcher 2. So buy it and enjoy a good game.
