Does Fallout 1 get less... boring?

I have tried Fallout 1 for the first time not too long ago (a few months) and I had some trouble getting into it as well. I felt like it got a lot better after the Scorpion-quest and Shady Sands, but that wasn't really because of content. I just got used to how the game feels and plays and the only way you can get there is by investing time. As annoying as this fact is, I have played quite a few slower games where I have had some trouble enjoying myself, but just kept playing. Oftentimes it pays off eventually.

Combat (Unarmed) could be frustrating at times, but I really enjoyed the soundtrack (reminds me of the STALKER-series quite a bit) and eventually kind of a flow ensued. Similar to Icewind Dale 1, which I played some time before Fallout, one just needs to be patient. But in the end it depends on your personal preferences. In my case I can count myself lucky that atmosphere (soundtrack, ambience, environments) is the most important factor for me to be able to enjoy games.

@MajorTomServo: The only useful advice I can think of is that you need to get into the right mindset. The most important thing for that is to not wish that the game was different. You need to accept it for what it is. Other than that just don't do quests which are too difficult for a low-level character.

No, actually.

Even though things get more spectacular later on, the enemies get more tough right in step, so the basic dynamics never really change.

If you thought the Radscorpion cave was boring, it's not going to get any better.

If you play for long enough and work the system carefully you can get to a state that you're one-shotting all the bad guys, which will be fun for an hour or so.

OP, are you aware you can skip, like, 90% of combat in Fallout 1/2 without even especially trying to or making a stealth class? Just run/sneak past enemies, it works in most instances. Oh, and try stealing everything you can. Stealing is essential to survive in the wasteland.

Less boring no...IT's old school. Old School you had patience and more importantly, you found ways to make your own things interesting. Like when I made a play through witha Bare Knuckle fighter. Got th Giftd and Bloody Death perk. Named him Ken
