Of course it does! If you play a male character in Fallout you have a higher chance of suffering a critical from a groin shot!

It's only bothered me in one instance: Final Fantasy X-2.

I was really looking forward to a continuation of the story and the world I enjoyed so much. But I blame not being able to get into it on my opinion of the only three playable characters being insufferably annoying chics.

I thought the character customization however, had a lot of promise.

Doesn't really matter. Although I would think an action or FPS game with a really ass-kicking female protagonist would be cool. And no, Bayonetta absolutely doesn't count.

this is very much a remake if you had searched you would have found the other topic made less than a week ago about the same thing.

but no I almost always play as female characters when there is a choice. TBh I don't really care but I just think it's more fun to see the other side of the fence and use my feminine wiles to break hearts and take lives

Not really. The character's what's important. A weak male is just as bad as a weak female.

Also, FemShep>You.

Sometimes. It does matter when there's a romance interest. Mass Effect is a good example, where certain things change as you play it with a different sex.

But say, an FPS, it doesn't matter so much. Samus or Master Chief. Jenna Dark or Marcus Fenix. Doesn't really matter so much in the end.

It depends on the game's story more than anything else. But most of the time it shouldn't matter as long as the gender doesn't effect the quality of the story. Though I believe all the FF series should have been female main character because all of them resemble them anyways. Also the roles were awkward because the character you started out as wasn't the main focus of the story when the men were starting character like FF10 and 12. In 10, it was Tidus but the story revolved around Yuna and 12, it was Vaan and the story was primarily about Ashe (although Balthier had a good part in it too).

it doesn't bother me all that much. although it is nice to see a good female lead in genres where there are mostly males.

i gree with you on this. it'd be nice to see some girls in an FPS kicking ass. borderlands is one that comes to mind that atleast tried with a sub par leading female character.

Depends on the protagonist for me really. In RPGs I like to create sort of bitchy females and really nice males. Sounds like my lovelife. But in a first person shooter, it doesn't really matter to me, I mean, I'd like to think I were a badass with boobs, why not?

Though, when it comes to females in the games, it's pretty interesting, the most intriguing moment for me was realizing that the Russians in CoD2 had this female. I realized it cause I kept dying near her behind mannequins on Vet Mode.

Also, in FEAR 2, Stokes I found hot, looked like my math teacher, and sounded like Cortana.

Depends. If I can chose class, then I like to do this:
A male Mage
A female physical attacker[, if anything involving martial arts it's preferable.]

Otherwise I just use the protagonist the game gives me.

It matters to me in 1 on 1 fighters because I'm a lot better with a quick character than a powerful one and girls are always faster.

Gender is just one piece of the puzzle of making a memorable or effective character. It doesn't really matter as long as it's well done.

As a male, I think the concept of playing as a female is interesting. Don't get me wrong, Solid Snake, Leon Kennedy, and Ezio Auditore wouldn't be the same if they were female, but in the same vein, Lara Croft wouldn't have the same appeal if she were male.

The only thing that bothers me about female pcs and just female characters in general is that most of the time they're purely for fanservice or as a love intrest for your rugged, more combat capable man character. Prime example, take Tifa out of Final Fantasy 7, what do you have? The same game, just one less pair of giant tits.

It doesn't really matter to me, depending on the game I play female characters when given the choice. Playing a female in an FPS tends to make you a smaller, harder to hit target. Playing a female in an RPG means you get some eyecandy while you're playing the game. I played all the way through Oni which doesn't give you a choice of character and forces you to play as a woman and thought it was a good game.
