As the title says, really.
There is a deeply ingrained cultural oddity online that can be summarised in one capitalised phrase - "OMG GIRLS ON TEH INTERNETZ!!!1!"
From this you can gather that some members of the fairer sex do indeed make use of the web from time to time. But somehow they are almost always met with scorn, derision, or calls for nude photos. And then more scorn.
C'mon guys, really? When did the internet become 'no girls allowed'? You can't even catch cooties over a wi-fi network!
Discussiony stuff - Is your opinion of individuals in the anonymous mass of web users influenced by their gender?
Do you automatically pay more attention to posts made by members of the opposite sex (or whichever gender it is you're interested in)?
Do you look for methods to make them pay more attention to you?
Do you pour scorn on them for chromosomal differences?
Are you more complimentary towards them?
Do you take the view that, given the anonymity of the internet, the gender of anyone you're communicating with is largely irrelevant?
Or do you believe that gender is an inherent part of identity, and despite the faceless, nameless state in which we exist here, it is still a sufficiently integral element that it should affect perception of the user?
[sub]Apologies for the largely male bias of this thread, however it frequently seems that the population of the internet is predominantly male. The escapist's population is, certainly[/sub]
EDIT: The wretched hive of scum and villainy that is the internet allows you to assume whatever gender you wish. This is the main reasoning for my logic - if it looks like a duck, sounds like a duck, and walks like a duck, it might still be a pigeon.
EDIT 2: Edited to slightly remove bias and add clarity. I hope.
