Does Honor Among Thieves Work/Exist?

I can't see a scenario where it can exist without being hypocritical.

Any instances of Honor among thieves?

Well all I know is stealing from a brother/sister thief gets you the boot from the thieves guild in Oblivion, sorry I don't have any instances of it in real life.

In books/films/media in general there appears to be two kinds of thieves, the types of thieves who look out only for themselves and steal from anyone. And the old school thieves who recognize each other as equals and don't steal from each other, and steal only from non criminal types.

If you steal stuff, you're far away from honor.
Though i guess only stealing from other thieves could sort make it more acceptable to non-thieves
