Does JS have something to do with aliens avoiding us?

Hello one and all. Not exactly sure how many people are actually going to comment on this thread, but I figured I'd give it a shot anyway because I thought it was funny.

Premise: Aliens (from outer space, not another country) can tap into network satellites in space and stumbled across shows like the Jersey Shore. Upon reviewing said material, they discern that humanity isn't worth investigating further, or worthy of valuable scientific breakthroughs.

I admit the premise is a little shaky, but they made movies with less of a premise in the 70s and 80s. That and I am not really any kind of a fan of the Jersey Shore, and find that it stands as a testament to bad television with some of the worst nicknames for people ever on tv. But going with the premise, wouldn't that be a real ***** if we were designated as a back-water planet because of those morons? Out of all the sci-fi movies I've seen, I have never seen aliens with a sense of humor, or an interest in a psuedo-Jersey version of American-Italian-ish culture.

The point being that horrible television shows being beamed into space and possibly picked up by alien races could be affecting their opinions of us (provided they have any, and that there are aliens of course). I know this is a bit of a stretch, but I appreciate anyone nice (or funny enough) to take a ride on this thought train with me. Hurray for my first thread!

This only works if you assume the "Independance Day" logic of aliens that a more advanced civilization than us is compatible with our technology. And if that's the case, every Mac user should be sending out evil virus signals lest we all be doomed.

And on another note, I'd like you to turn your attention towards this [http://www.cracked.com/blog/5-movies-we-hope-any-potential-alien-invaders-have-seen] article.

I've never seen Jersey Shore, but I have to believe there are worse shows on TV. Also, I really doubt aliens would have to watch TV to find reasons to ignore/hate humanity. Just listen in on the average conversation and they'll probably be reaching for their ray guns. People, in general, are fucking stupid and shallow...certainly not worth getting to know further.

I said it was a bit of a shaky premise. I would guess if they are taking their time to study our entertainment, they'd eventually learn our language and the basic elements of our culture if they were considering us for some sort of technological union. And there have at least been television sci-fi shows that were based on aliens coming in to help us save ourselves from ourselves. Besides, logic doesn't have a lot to do with this, just a thread for poops and giggles to encourage a little dorky humor.

The alien-human relationship could be summerized by comparing it to the human-ant relationship.
We know ants are there and have done experiments with them, but they are too small and insignificant for us to bother with. We have 10-lane superhighways built right next to their mounds, and they have no idea. We don't go their their colony and give them our technology. Why should aliens share their tech with us when we are but ants to them?

I think of the same thing, but instead of aliens, I'm thinking the people in the Middle East whom we expect to consider the US to not be selfish, sexually outrageous, and terrible people.

The likely hood that through the enitre INFINITE universe, some random Alien culture will stumble upon Earth and they will happen to have exactly the same compatible technology we do, YET, still be advance enough to have some form of FTL travel or some form of proloning their lives is very low I should think.

Waitwaitwaitwait... You think that we might make alien contact from Jersey Shore? I would think if that was the show they noticed, they would blow up the Earth from a distance. I know I would if I was in their shoes...

Having us appears as "ants" to an alien civilization seems to fly in the face of the premise of a few movies and video games. Your analogy of building highways next to ant hills implies that the ants are aware of our presence because it is obvious, but there isn't a comparable example for extra-terrestrial beings. FTL notwithstanding, we have at least made our presence known in our galaxy and made attempts to be noticed by aliens, which I can't say that ants have done. Ants have not built anything outside of what is necessary for their own survival without giving thought to attracting attention to themselves for the benefit of meeting and interacting with another species.
I'm glad at least I got some replies to this post. I hope to post another thread next week, hopefully without being as off-center as this. Thank you for the responses.
