does link need his sword?

in igns screenshots link has no sword.
and while i doubt hel be swordless i allmost want him to be.
if youve played links crossbow chalenge mabey youll know what im talking about, most of the game is just targets poping up and you shooting them but every few levels there is a third person shooter level wich i honestly enjoyed.
did anyone else like it?
given more polish could it be a full fledged game?
