I thought Portal was a masterpiece all by itself, and that it's one of the last things that needs it's own series. I'm not saying portal 2 will be bad, just... unnecessary.

What do you think?

Have you seen the trailers?

If they can make it 10x longer and better then yes there is need for a sequel!

I while ago, I would have said no. However, seeing what they're doing with it, and adding even more things, I'd still say no, portal doesn't NEED a sequel, but the sequel won't be shit as I suspected.

No, it didn't, but at least it looks like they're not just remaking the first game and putting a 2 at the end. It almost doesn't look unnecessary.

One of the best things about Portal was it ended before the novelty wore off.

I think the original ending was just begging for a sequel (cause she escaped, and now you want to know what happened). Now with the new ending, not making a sequel would be againt many international laws (although by the time the second ending was released, I believe the second game had already been anounced).

So to sum it up: Yes is needs a sequel

So far Valve hasn't dissapointed once in the last decade.

If it were any other company I'd be sceptical of a sequel, but I'm rather confident they'll pull another masterpiece out.

Yeah, I'm with you there. It is Valve after all.

Well apparently they're both still alive so the story isn't technically ended.

I agree with you, the game didn't need a sequel. But Valve hasn't really disappointed me yet.

No, but it should be a fun game and will hopefully flesh out the Aperture Science context before ep 3 finally rocks our world.

Nope. Portal is great, but it ended. And no, Valve adding a new ending just to make the sequel more justified doesn't make the sequel necessary. Adding a new ending for that purpose is just pretty sad really.

I agree with the OP. Portal 2 is unnecessary. Doesn't mean I won't play it, and probably love it, but still unnecessary.

Yes because Portal was an interesting idea that was executed in a near perfect way and the Portal universe sort of meshes with the Half-Life universe. Making a sequel would only make sense and it's a nice expansion of what has been done and a show of what could be done with gaming as a whole. It's too creative of an idea to just be left alone.

Plus, I've seen the videos and it not only looks like they're expanding it in a way that won't ruin the first game, but it's hilarious as well. I'm glad they're pushing the limits of what could be done. And this is Valve we're talking about here.
