Well, cheesecake doesn't NEED a chocolate topping, I know which I would choose though.

Looking forward to Portal 2. Portal 3 will be announced shortly after portal 2 is released, but we won't see it til 2052.

If the game runs about 3-5 hours...it will be fantastic. If it runs from 8+ hours, the game will get really really boring after a while. The best thing about Portal, was how the Portal concept never overstayed its' welcome. Though to be fair, this is a real sequel, unlike what they do now where they just add a character or two, slap a 2 at the end and your done. The game has new mechanics, new characters, new locales (if you can really call them that), and a storyline that branches off the first game.
It will be 8+ hours but I noticed something about Portal 1 after replaying it for the 5th time. Every time I would start to get bored, something new would happen. I started to get bored and they gave me the full portal gun. I started to get bored again and then they put me behind the scenes. I started to get bored again and they had me at the boss fight.

Yes portal 1 doesn't need a sequel but the fans sure as hell do want a sequel of the awesomenage that is Portal.

And come on Portal 2 looks bad ass from the gels and the lasers it all looks really cool

Didn't Gabe say that Portal 2 is the greatest game Valve has made to date?

Pretty sure he said that in some interview.

I think it'll be good. IMO, Portal was like a really fun and well made tech demo. But it was lacking in some respects. It seems to me that Portal 2 is going to be the "real game"

He said that Portal 2 for PS3 will be the best console version.

I don't know why he didn't just say it would be better than the 360 version.

Unless the Wii would be getting it's own version.

It doesn't NEED one, but if one gets made anyway, why not be happy about itOHMYGOD IT'S GONNA BE SO AWESOME!!! xD

All seriousness aside, I love portal's gameplay and story, They'll have a hard time fething either up too bad from what the trailers show :D

Then again, that'll only encourage them to try and refute my thesis :D

Most of the gameplay demos look fantastic.... it looks like the puzzles will be harder, there will be more humour and more all-around fun.... Hells yes.

If you are looking at the story line of Portal than no if it didn't have a sequel then it would go down as one of the greatest games of all time and possibly the greatest puzzle game ever created.

But if you are looking at it from a level of length and player satisfaction than yes Portal definitely needs a sequel because I am sure if you liked Portal you will love the longer enhanced version of it.

I think it works on its own, but would also be great as a series/trilogy/whatever Valve want to do with it.

Portal 2 looks like an actual sequel, not a rushed rehash like L4D2. The other actual sequel that Valve made was Half Life 2. You see where I'm going with this. I am 100% confident that they can produce gameplay that will make Portal 1 feel like a child's drawing. However, Portal is much more than just the gameplay, there are many little elements that clicked in a marvelous way and made the first game such an absolute joy: The art design, the (black) humour, the clever writing, the ambience, the "nerdy" atmosphere, that god damned song in the end... Can Valve also hit all those key points for the sequel and improve them ever more? That remains to be seen...

I think it was necessary, but I don't wanna get too hyped about it - I generally prepare for the worst in games, and games quite often, sadly, fall far short of expectations...
