Seriously, does the internet get sarcasm?
The amount of times i've been sarcastic and gotten a complete bollocking for it...
(and yes, i am placing all the people into a group and calling it the interent, just think of it as a majority)

So, what do you think my love-nuggets?
(it's been a long day, don't ask.)

I get sarcasm. I'm really sarcastic. Plus I'm kind of a smartass. :p I'm not your love-nugget Sizzle!

Also off topic:
Because why not?

Did you use italics or something? Given the number of people on the internet it's hard to tell sometimes if someone is being sarcastic, stupid, ignorant, or whateverhaveyou. Really without stating that you are being sarcastic it can be hard to tell. Given that sarcasm is usually conveyed by tone of voice it is something hard to get across in text. On the whole the internet doesn't get sarcasm as well as the real world does.

You can't give vocal inflection over the internet...so it can be difficult to tell if someone is being serious or satirical.

I tend to finish a sarcastic remark with "note that the previous statement was made with sarcasm and added stupidity to create a comedic effect, I never meant to flame or start a troll war in any way, thank you for reading my comment"

haha

I assume everyone is sarcastic from the start. And Im not being sarcastic. Though I have been thought as a bigot, jerk, idiot, or whatever because they did not get my sarcasm. Sometimes, if I dont think people will get it, I will add (sarcasm) at the end.

Tone is hard (not impossible) to convey in writing, but it would take a good writer to do it properly.

With the internet you kind of have to be a little more cautious because even if you're a good writer some people might not get the intricacies of English grammar and punctuation that might give the writing a sarcastic tone.

So, if push comes to shove always use the ever handy [sarcasm][/sarcasm].

The Escapist certainly doesn't.

All jokes are alien here, in fact. If you want it to be understood that you are saying jokes, you have to outright state it, and then explain the joke in excruciating detail. Then you must upload a video of you tipping your hat so hard you have friction burns and winking like you are having an epileptic fit.

If you neglect to do any of this, get ready for a trip to Report City, fuckass.

Unless your blatantly obvious and note that your being sarcastic then no people will think your being serious. Also the Escapist is not the best site I've been on at discovering that your being sarcastic which is sad because I've been called out for being a dick before when I was being sarcastic.

Even the most blatantly obvious sarcastic remarks can be misinterpreted on the internet, either because the reader has a very poor grasp of the english language, or the writer isn't very good at writing. Not to mention that most people who are active on the internet are quite young, and may not actually "get" sarcasm, as of yet.
What? I find that young people are very sarcastic and get jokes and sarcastic comments while that stuff goes over the heads of older people.
Edit: Teens can be the most sarcastic and passive-aggressive people in the world.
