Does the Mass Effect 3 extended cut fix what was wrong?

ME3 + Extended Cut - The Massive Drama (which I was a vocal part of) would = A much better overall experience... getting caught up in the endgame drama was kind of like being involved in a dirty gangbang porn scene.

You came out of the experience feeling a bit slimey, and overall a worse human than before.

It adds a conclusion to the shittiness, but the shittiness is still firmly rooted.

- The fucking space kid is still there
- The Reapers still have their stupid "kill organics to save them from getting killed by synthetics" motivation.
- The choices you've made throughout the series still account to nothing in the end.

It's... better. They addressed some complaints. I'm mainly bitter against those who say how great it was and we just couldn't good writing if we didn't like. I've seen good writing. It wasn't good writing.

Although I would of liked if Indoctrination Theory was right,having a sort of closure to the Deus Ex Machina bs ending is at least something.

In other words,it's a good polished turd which I guess I can cope with.Having said that,after reading that Leviathan will change the ending -again-,I don't know what to think anymore.

My only problem with the original ending was the fact that it did not show the impact of any of your decisions made throughout the series. The EC added closure which was all that I was hoping for.

I have been gone since January due to military service and as such, I am not too sure what is going on in the gaming world. I was looking forward to playing Mass Effect 3 but I have heard some things about how crappy the ending is. My limited research informed me of an extended cut version of the game and I was wondering if it actually made things better.

Really, it depends on who you're asking. Personally I think that the Extended Cut did a fantastic job of fixing up the endings, and if you've been gone since January and thus have never seen the original crappy endings, you might be in a good position to genuinely enjoy the ending without having to worry about all the rage that came before the Extended Cut.

If nothing else, it definitely improves them over the original ones, and its free so there's no reason to not go ahead and get it.

But what it realy boils down to is you're either someone who absolutely HATES EA and as such nothing they did was going to satisfy you or a Bioware fanboy who thought things weren't nearly as bad as people were making them out to be. Or there's the sensible group of people who had genuine complaints about there not being enough closure around the old endings, and if you're one of those people then the Extended Cut endings grant your wish perfectly, I'd argue.

Well, I'll put it this way -

If Bioware had done what they did in the extended cut in the first place, ME3 would be known as a great ending to the trilogy, with a last bit that was a little odd in ways that most people just sort of overlook. The extended cut certainly didn't make it a GOOD ending, but they fixed it about as well as reasonably possible without tossing it out entirely. Personally, I really think starting over on the ending is what they should have done, but if I hadn't seen the original ending, I probably wouldn't be complaining too much about the ending with the extended cut

The Extended Cut does not fix anything - it even raises new issues, but it does give you a more comprahensive bit of heart-tuggery at the end, which is all that most (by the looks of it) people wanted.

We have become so accustomed to Hollywood logic and "rule of cool", that we are willing to suspend disbelief infinitely, as long as we get to be led by our noses all the way to the end. That is what the EC is.

Without spoilers: It fills in the bits that were obvious plot holes. It gives you a better sense of closure.

It does not fix the problems with the rest of the game, however. It's an improvement, and you'll probably not get the same sense of utter disappointment and frustration that people without it got, but there's still problems with the game as a whole that went un-addressed. So basically, the whole 'backlash' situation has more-or-less been cleaned up (at least), but it still isn't anything fantastic.

I'd say to play it anyway. You don't get the horribleness, but don't expect amazing either.

It mitigated the damage. The problem with the original endings were not just the story that the endings told, but also how it was presented (vaguely). The DLC covers the second problem, telling the same stories only with much better presentation, more elaboration on what happened and so on. The resulting endings, while not great, are at the very least adequate, perhaps even decent. If these endings were in the game on release, the whole debacle would have been avoided. Sure, people would gripe about the endings being kinda "meh", but there wouldn't have been so much fallout...

It explains in detail what was left out because the author was shortsighted enough to think everyone would come to the exact same conclusion he did.

It makes the plot holes much more defined though, you can more clearly see that it's just really bad writing.

It makes it slightly more palatable by explaining what some things are/mean, and clarifying what happens as a result of your final choice, but...

The big, glaring plot-holes, betrayal of theme, blatant lack of purpose for your party members' presence, devaluing of the main conflict, devaluing of the main antagonist, numerous continuity contradictions, and the deus ex machina are still there.

Additionally, it adds some new (though slightly less aggravating and a lot more unintentionally hilarious) plot holes in the form of a short new cut scene during the final run to the citadel.

Seriously, why the hell does Harbinger just STAND there and let the normandy pick people up. You'd think his first thought would 'OH SHIT, the normandy; better blow that once up first!' considering Harbinger knows Shepard's the only competent person in the galaxy, and yet Harby just freezes up for a solid 2 minutes while Shep slowly and dramatically evacuates her teammates.

I think the best way to describe the extended cut is that if it was the original ending, there wouldn't have been nearly as much drama surrounding the ending. People would have been a little disappointed but there would have been a lot of people content. It's hard to really imagine that scenario though because when we all played the extended cut we still had a bad taste in our mouth. One thing that I can say for certain is that the ending no longer feels as insanely out of place.

Since you are thinking about playing the game, I think this is what you need to know:

1) You should play with the Extended Cut. It makes the ending better.

2) Even with the Extended Cut, it's still going to suck.

Like people keep saying, the Extended Cut did not fix the ending because nothing short of a complete rewrite could do that. But it will make that shit a little easier to swallow, and you're going to need all the help you can get.

Also, Bioware makes the most ridiculous, bratty passive-aggressive stab at it's customers I have ever seen. Like the original ending, you have to see it to believe that somehow it actually got written down and made it into the game. Why people continue to defend a company that openly ridicules it's customers is something I will never understand.

I thought it actually made the ending worse, for two reasons. It didn't change the ending, and therefore just made the original terrible ending longer, which in turn made it harder to sit through. Secondly, the refusal ending they added is downright childish and insulting. *Doctor Who Spoiler* You remember that episode with starship UK (11th doctor) where you were told about the truth behind how it was able to fly without an engine, you were supposedly given a choice between allowing it to continue, or protesting, but anyone who protested was actually fed to a giant star whale. That's pretty much what the refusal ending like feels to me. They say: choose to accept our bullshit ending or everyone you know and love dies.

Well, it's not as if the galaxy could ever actually have victory against the Reapers. The Power of Friendship doesn't win you interstellar wars against a massively superior foe, no matter what George Lucas says.

It was still poorly written, shallow, and boring though.

It was a condescending attempt at satisfying people. Biggest complaints were starchild even existing, they ignored that. Your crewmates managing to get on the ship again? They had the normandy pick up your crew, in direct view of harbinger and he ignores it. The biggest threat he has faced in the galaxy and he ignores it. Legit.

Then you have the whole garrus and tali not being able to eat the same food as humans, so the planet they landed on dooms some of your crew. They fixed this by having them fix the ship somehow, despite clearly showing that the back of it was wrecked (Maybe the trees are now metal, at this point I wouldn't be surprised).

Oh, joker doesn't get upset about EDI dying either, if you pick the destroy ending. Completely glosses over it. For shame.

Enjoyable game. Shame they never made an ending for it. Was nice of them to release it up until you got hit by the laser though.
