This is very much one of those "2:00am and can't fucking sleep" threads, but does it piss anyone else off when people say "gooey" when talking about a game's GUI? I can understand wanting to do this when it's a longer acronym, but when you can just say "gee you eye" or "graphical user interface" I don't see the point. This was likely spawned by the same people who write w/ instead of with because they're too lazy to hit those two extra keys.
In the event you were talking to someone who isn't well versed in game design lingo, saying "gooey" would probably make them stare at you judgmentally and silently for several seconds before raising an eyebrow and saying "Um, what?". At least if you say "gee you eye" they would know it's an acronym.
I saw this happen once. A couple of friends and I were discussing the West Nile outbreak a few years back, and one of my friends said to the other "I hear the WHO is busily working on a vaccine.", however my other friend was baffled as to why a British band would take such an active roll in disease control.
