Played Devil May Cry 3. Loved it. Especially because Dante is so awesomely cool.

I'm less interested however in DMC 4, simply because Dante is not the main character, and I hate the look and general concept of Nero. Is that wrong?

Not to me. I hated it when the replaced Solid Snake with Raiden and it pissed me off that they put some dumb ass named Nero in DMC4. That was just to lame for words to me.

Ironicly I watched the "Devil May Cry 4" Zero Punctuation earlier...
I must say, I'm with the critic. I can't really tell a lot of difference between the two main fellas. But I don't have much background info on Devil May Cry, so I'm invalid.
I suppose it's not silly. They get you to like a character then replace him with a completely different guy.

I'm fine with your opinion if you don't like the game, but I really find it kind of silly that people would overlook a game simply because of a new character (especially people who constantly decry every new character that is added to games. That's beyond silly). Dante still gets his own part in the game, it's just not his story. In my opinion, having a new character doesn't make the game worse in any way. It adds variety to the game. Honestly, I think it would have been cool if the special edition for DMC3 had a true Vergil path instead of having him play Dante's levels.

OP: I never liked Nero, either, he's so stupid and angsty like every stereotype and their dog. But the combat was vastly improved.

Okay - I might give it a go. You may be right that it's wrong to hate a game without trying simply because of a new character.

Or Dante's coolness just can't be replaced!

Seriously tho - I think I'll try it. If the gameplay is good and the graphics are good, then that's OK.

I would agree (from Youtubing the first fight scene between Nero and Dante) that they look worryingly similar.

At least they could have made Nero's coat fully blue, or something. And given him different coloured hair, cos I couldn't tell what the f was going on half the time...

Maybe dress him in pink to match his personality?

No thats fine. I myself despised Nero and saw him as a very bad copy of a young Dante. The arm attacks were pretty cool for awhile but I grew bored with them.
I actually thought that nero made the game less enjoyable, but thats just me.

You should get it if its cheap though.
