Dog survives euthanasia

So basically, this dog has a serious spine issue and the owner wanted to end her suffering. The vet screwed up and the dog survived "being put down".
I take care of three black labs (I won't say I own or have 3 dogs because I do not think of them as posessions, but rather children). If this happened to any of my girls, it would mess me up for a few days.
I'm not going to ask you guys to discuss any specific topic (i.e. "Should vets be charged with malpractice?"). I just wanted to share this story.

Wow that is, well erm, shocking.

I love dogs as you say like they're children and dread the day I first have to attend the euthanasia of one.

But if this happened on the occasion I would be pretty messed up.

Still it's sort of good that the vet messed up as opposed to the dog being resistant or immune. That would probably be worse for the owner.

Edit: After reading the Article, Sorry hearing of animals put down etc damages my soul, I've got to say that's pretty scary, especially the whole getting up and standing at him, that would scar me deeply it must be said.

well, they don't try to use too much, but different animals have different resistances. The vet probably just used a known dosage for that species...but it didn't take complete affect.

Well, the veins are very hard to hit, but usually it's in the scruff of the neck, which should'nt have been an issue, I'm sure this is not the vets fault, but more bad luck. I have seen a problem when the customer asks special request on with the euthanasia though, and that's usually where they mess up. - referance mom, a RVT

So, did they just give up after the first failure?

To be a little less insensitive... I admit I have no idea who you euthanize something. I didn't realize you could screw it up that easily.

Poor dog, but maybe he is immortal and is having a back problem because he is turning into some sort of man-dog-god thing...but poor little puppy.

They gave the dog enough to induce a false death basically. The dog woke up the next morning when the owner went to retrieve the body for burial. He can't afford another attempt, so for now he's taking care of her while trying to find a home that can attend to her special needs.

That's... amazingly terrible. I'm sure the emotional barrier that they had to destroy to even decide it was okay to put down their pet was hard enough to take down...

WTF. You would think that the vet would at least REFUND THE GUYS MONEY for failing to do the job right... thats seriously fucked up...
