We all like dogs. They're man's best friend, they work as both hunters and as companions, and they hold a place on the Chinese calender.
So, post what you think is the best breed of dog and why. My personal favourites are the Alsation (because of their roles in the Public Services) and the Siberian Husky (because they look the most like their wolf ancestors).

Definitely agree there... I like German Shepherds as well most of all among dogs. The more like a wolf a dog resembles, the better. They go from cute as a puppy to austere as an adult. Nothing to hate about them.

While I'm a cat person myself, I can't deny how cool dogs are.

My personal favourite dog breed has to be the Golden Retreiver. They're smart, loyal, gentle, and useful in so many different jobs (guide dogs, drug sniffing, search and rescue etc.)

Besides who could be mad at a face like that?

My dog is a mutt, and resembles some kind of bastard child of a huskie/greyhound/boxer 3-way. But honestly she's as loving as dogs get. If you get lucky with a mutt they can be the best, and they often live longer and have less genetic health problems.

German Shepards. I dunno why, but I always liked them. Perhaps it's the "German" in the name.
German Shepherds are some of the greatest dogs in the world. I just love them. If only our landlord let us have dogs.

Definitely Siberian Husky. They are fiercely loyal, intelligent, and just look at those eyes. As soon as I get a house of my own, I'm getting a Husky Puppy.

Now, I'm not much of a dog person (much prefer cats!) but Greyhound most large dogs are ok in my book.

I hate little yappy things, but these larger dogs command some respect, 'cos if they wanted to, they could fuck you up.

Corgis are rather charming. Plus, you could name one "Ein" and pretend you're on the Bebop.
I'll see your corgie and raise you a viking dog:

I really love dogs. My great grandparents were breeders, and a generation before that introduced a breed of terrier to North America.
That being said, I don't care for dumb animals and do not tolerate the company of drooling morons.

I don't think there's one best breed. We may not use them for the original purpose of the breed, but the traits of some breeds are well suited to contemporary needs.

I will admit that I am partial to miniature schnauzers. Intelligent, articulate, pretty healthy and are a low-key animal, making them less prone to anxiety and destructive behavior when their family is away.
They're a bit vocal as watchdogs, but with developing good self-esteem in the animal, barking isn't too bad an issue.

I have a Groodle here (standard Poodle crossed with a Golden Retriever - she's a very intelligent, family orientated dog. She never drops any hair as it's like wool and is the most comforting, happy friend I've had for a long time. =) If your doing something in the house, you can bet she's always by your side with a big smile. ^^

A sudden thought came to me as I read that. How would you like this dog:

Yes, I know he's a beagle, but what is he?

I've had a dog in my house since I was born and they've all been yellow Labradors. I guess it's kind of a tradition. My parents got one before I was born who died when I was 2, then they got another straight away and she was my best friend and died when I was 16. Since then we've had a third who's a complete and utter idiot.
So, yeah, my favourite breed is Labrador/Retriever but I also adore Beagles and Huskys. Beagles are the most adorable dogs in the world and Huskys are so damn badass!
