So, fellow Escapists, I have a problem. My mum really wants me to get dreadlocks and she has already ordered me a packet of blue [http://www.cybershop.fi/product/1553/rasta-blue], black-red [http://www.cybershop.fi/product/2506/rasta-stripe-blackred], black-blue [http://www.cybershop.fi/product/3548/rasta-stripe--blackblue] and black-purple-red-mix [http://www.cybershop.fi/product/1499/rasta-blackpurple-red-mix] dreadlocks. She said it's an early birthday present (turning 18 soon, yay).

"Now what's the problem here? Isn't it nice that a mum is actually ready to pay for that stuff and all? My mum would never agree to dreadlocks!" Yes, I realize this is a wonderful situation that my mum supports me and isn't as old-fashioned as my friends' mums are. (My best friend's mum would get a heart attack if my friend even suggested something like this.) And my big brother's girlfriend has already promised to braid my hair next weekend.
However, it is my boyfriend I'm worried about. I asked him what he thinks about dreadlocks and he said he doesn't really like them. He did then tell me he wouldn't get mad at me if I got them - this is my hair we're talking about after all. Still, it left me perplexed. My mum is very excited and she can't wait to see what I look like with the dreadlocks. She also told me she can even pay for the trip to my big brother's house since they live in another town.

Anyways, this is where it comes to you, Escapists. Would you go through with something like this if your bf/gf didn't like the idea too much? Or would you just listen to your significant other and leave your hair/whatever-you-were-going-to-do as it is? I will go through with this since I like the idea of dreadlocks as well and they have already been paid for. I'm just worried what my boyfriend will think afterwards. And actually I'm worried about my friends too, since they are kind of more old-fashined than I am. (One of my friends sulked for weeks because I dyed my hair black.) What would you do?

I think you should consider what your significant other says... but don't let it affect your decision too much. If your worried a lot about it, that might spoil the fun of getting dreadlocks anyways, afterall. Still, in the end its your decision, if you want dreads, go for it!
