We've all had to happen to us or be the example at some point. What's inspired this are some conversations I had with people. It's amusing how out of the loop most casual games can be when it comes to this industry. Long story, short: some of these people are fans of GTA and are waiting on VI. Some of them do play other games, but most only play the one game and not much else.
The conversations started or ended with me saying I have no plans on getting GTA VI at any point, nor on a sale. A lot of them have a shocked/surprised, "why?". The reasons why are mainly because I lost interest in the franchise after GTA IV. Things got boring and I was already interested in other games. Plus, most sandbox games I don't find interesting or don't do second playthroughs. Even back in the day, I enjoyed the GTA games at the time, but was never obsessed with them. I play what only interests me. I did point this out, and thankfully, every conversation I had so far is the other parties understanding and respecting my decision. Though at least one guy I talked to knew about other games outside of COD, GTA, Fifa, Madden, or Fornite. He at least knew what Bayonetta, Devil May Cry, and Resident Evil are. Granted, these are adults either younger than me or about my age.
Also, I did tell them, I am never paying $100 at a base price, if that happens to be the case. I won't pay $70+ either. One person did responds with, if you can afford the console(s), you can afford the game. I responded back, "Not necessarily". You don't know anyone circumstances. They've could've gotten the console used, as a gift, or won as a prize. Even the ones who can afford or barely afford it, you don't know their everyday financial situation. Putting food on the table and paying bills are much higher priorities than some possibly overcharged game.
