Hey, is anyone here familiar with the stop motion animator Don Hertzfeldt? If not, I highly recommend checking him out. He made the popular Rejected Cartoons as well as "Everything Will Be Ok" and "I Am So Proud of You," two great short films. I'm looking for a nice discussion of either of these films. Anyone interested?

All I know of his work is Rejected. I honestly didn't know he did other short films. I think I'll look them up.

Rejected is quite funny, but his short films are much more serious and have a pretty bleak outlook on life. Good stuff.

I've seen Billy's Balloon or whatever it's called.

Genius.

A friend showed me Rejected a while back. Weird stuff, but I liked it.

My brother is an animation student. I think I'll plug some of his work here:

I've heard of him, personally my favorite is Genre. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1n3JBQdN84]

There's this DVD box set I own called The Animation Show [http://www.amazon.com/Animation-Show-Vol-Boxed-Set/dp/B000FSME4C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1267076821&sr=8-1] and what's pretty cool is that all of the little intermission sequences [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sN3UnhrEU6Y] were done by him as well.

He's kind of different in that while virtually all modern animation has some elements that are done on the computer he still does everything by hand.

He draws each frame by hand and even the 'special effects' he does through multiple exposures of the same image!

Indeed. For the multiple windows in Everything Will Be OK, he used holes burnt through pieces of paper and moved them around as needed. Didn't it take him something like 2 years to complete the crowd scene in The Meaning of Life?
