This is mostly for the Pro-FGC[footnote]Fighting Game Community[/footnote] so I don't mind it too much, It wouldn't surprise me that the EVO scene earns Capcom a nice constant stream of income.
Besides, they are still updating from 2008, that should count for something.

They still have at least another 4 versions of Street Fighter IV to charge full price for, before they're ready to make an actual new game.

For more context on what Tanakh is saying, remember the MOUNTAINS of death threats that Black Ops 2 Dev got for changing the reload speed on one of the guns? (Link to the news story)

It's much the same thing there as on top of adding new characters, they are changing how the old ones play I.E. It seems like Dhalsim's long range limb attacks hit twice now, allowing for him to break certain moves with Armor[footnote]Heavy attacks that soak up a hit and keep going. Basically the Toughness perk from Black Ops 2[/footnote].
That is a HUGE deal for Dhalsim players and makes MUCH more of a difference then adding 0.1 seconds to a reload.

Also, this a E-Sports level game, so they are CONSTANTLY getting balance feedback from professional Fighting Game Players (Guys who play these games for a living...No, Really) who actually know what they are talking about, not just COD Kids who are bitching about their OP gun becoming slightly less awesome.

And on top of this, they are remaking 4 characters with SF4 Mechanics and creating a whole new one from scratch.
Are Capcom Execs greedy as fuck? Yes, but they wrote the book on fighting games so I'm willing to give the dedicated team making this the benefit of the doubt.

Well, they aren't saying that Ultra will be the last version of SFIV, are they? I could easily see them pushing out another two or three versions before they eventually get around to the fifth one.

As for the 'balance issues' for 'pro-players', guess what? not everyone is a pro player. So wouldn't it be easier just to make a tournament version that events like EVO would use while keeping the non-tournament version updated for other players?
This is something that will never happen ever.

My only problem with Ultra is that all the characters and backgrounds are lifted from Street Fighter X Tekken, it seems kinda lazy. Had they made new characters or taken a couple of lesser known classics from the alpha series or whatever it would have been a pretty cool expansion.

It's a shame that they are so slow with new entries, because even if all the expansions have been pretty substantial, we are still playing the same levels, listening to the same music and starring at the same menues. I would like to play something new and fresh, a new atmosphere could do wonders for my Street Fighting.

OT, I used to play fighting games, but then Developers started getting the idea that they can just re-release the same game but throw in a couple of extra characters and sell it for the same price as a new game.

You know, they have these things called PATCHES which allow you, the developer, to change and fix things with a game without the need to re-release the exact same game seven times.
Several things are iffy in your post, going by paragraph:

a) They don't release the "same game", doin the necessary balance as said is not easy. And they also don't release it with the same price as a new game.

b) That can't happen, basically because it's a retarded idea. Balancing takes money, deploying the patch on consoles takes money, there is absolutely not a single game that you buy once and grants you the gameplay content that does that. There are options however, keeping the servers for old versions is great and honestly I can't see how can anyone complain when they do this (not 100% sure they do, i always upgrade... but i have seen threads saying they do), alternatively they could go free to play with upgrades (like TF2), free to play with game breaking upgrades (LoL, Street Fighter X Tekken should have done this) or free to play with minor/aesthetic stuff (GW2). Honestly i like their monetizing scheme, from 0 to 10 i would put theirs at a 7, LoL at a 2, TF 8 and GW2 9.

Didn't they introduce a guy who fights using oil to ensure he's all lubed up and slippery?
That's Hakan you're thinking of, and yes, being "lubed up and slippery" is part of his shtick.

However, that's actually an important mechanic for Hakan as being oiled increases his overall range of motion. And since he's a grappler much like Zangief, T.Hawk, and El Fuerte (though El Fuerte's a weird example), the increased grab range is huge for Hakan.

He still ain't worth shit, all things considered, but there it is.

...

What was this topic about again?

I'll keep paying whatever they ask until I get Karin, Rainbow Mika and Zubaz! Particularly Karin; I wanna hear her being a horrible human being in English. <3

Darkstalkers was awesome. They can do so much more.
Seconded. In fact, Darkstalkers in this 2 1/2-D engine would be boss. As. Hell.

Fighting games should not be released often A fighting game doesn't even really finish developing until a year or two after it's released. I loved the KOF series but it was only really good every other game or so and you could skip many of them.

Periodic updates and newer DLC characters are far more welcome than a brand new game. This is one of the very very few things in Capcom I agree with.

I understand how under the hood there's a lot going on... but the same can be said for almost all games.
Because being verbose with my replies takes effort, and sometimes a clip will do. Without further ado:

So screaming at someone that they're wrong because you feel differently than they do about something is how a discussion should go?

So far the argument being presented to me is that PvP games have more mechanics to worry about because they try so hard to focus on balance. That doesn't actually mean they have MORE mechanics to worry about, in fact they have LESS mechanics to worry about but they have to make sure those mechanics are as smooth and fluid as possible. This is based a lot upon the size of the rosters and the variety of opponents, when they add a new character into the mix it can have a massive rippling effect as other fighters might need to be changed to accommodate for them... which can make them unbalanced against OTHER fighters and so on.

But these games do not have to deal with other aspects of other games like massive worlds, inventory systems, an actual plot with branching paths, voice acting worth a damn... so telling me I'm objectively wrong that other games have a lot of mechanics to deal with as well is just arrogant and foolish.

Didn't read after this, sorry.
Maybe you should read someone's entire post before commenting on how someone is just fundamentally wrong without examining what they're actually discussing.

You will see I did elaborate more as people brought up the idea of intensive balance somehow making Street Fighter games to be the most difficult games to make, requiring more work than any other.

Which is, guess what? Completely wrong.
