EDIT: Yeah, I know the guy in the video comes off as quite an asshole and isn't quite eloquent, but I agree with what he's saying, not necessarily HOW he's saying it.

now, this guy is being very reasonable. people who are getting mad at projector games for releasing a minecraftian game on consoles shouldn't be so pissed.

they don't like it? go play minecraft and stop complaining about a game you'll never play and will most likely have no impact on your gaming experience.

though i don't see how PC gamers or PC gaming elitists come into this, i'm sure the only problems are stemming from jack-offs who are just rabid minecraft fanboys. yes. minecraft is a great game. no, minecraft is not a genre.

yeah, fortresscraft looks almost EXACTLY like Minecraft, but why can't we look at it as being "inspired by" instead of "ripping off of" minecraft? like how people should stop saying all hack-n-slash games are "ripping of of" god of war. Minecraft is not a genre, just like FPS's and RPGs. If Dragon Age is not a rip-off of Dungeons and Dragons, if Medal of Honor is not a rip-off of Call of Duty, if Duke Nukem is not a rip-off of Wolfenstein, then FortressCraft is not a rip-off of Minecraft.

plus, the 3 dollar price tag is VERY appealing to me (seeing as minecraft is more expensive and pirating that game would be, to me, wrong considering how great a game it supposedly is) and to the average consumer. so can every hater on FortressCraft take a step back and actually analyze why the hell they are hating on something that doesn't want to do anything more than bring a resource-gathering constructionist game that looks like minecraft to the consoles?

And why do you want to not let console gamers enjoy what you enjoy? it makes no sense, it's not like us playing a DIFFERENT GAME is going to ruin Minecraft for you >:|

The funniest thing is that the Minecraft team has said that Minecraft was based on a very similar idea from someone else.

OT: Don't give a shit, to be honest. I didn't like Minecraft, I probably won't like this either.

All those other examples didn't just find something that was currently popular, make the graphics shinier, then sell the result on a different platform for a cheaper price. I don't take too much exception to FortressCraft, but I do find the whole idea behind it somewhat cynical. Also, Minecraft looks a lot nicer, those HD graphics look awful.

I love Minecraft, but my puny computer can barley handle it with the render distance on small, so if FortressCraft would come to the PS3, I'd get it.

The only reason I am biased against it is the name.
I mean seriously, naming your game halfway like the game you're drawing inspiration from doesn't seem to be the best way to get rid of ripoff accusations.
Other than that, if it comes out for the PS3, I am totally getting it.

Honestly, if the market can support tens of FPS games, including some near clones of each other by competing publishers, then it can easily support two Minecraft-like games. It's still a knock-off, but I'm not going to try to demonize it. I won't be buying it either, but that's mostly because it's being released on Xbox Live.

Not the most eloquent man is he? I agree though it's a good game that doesn't hurt to have a similar type on a system that it isn't currently on. And hey. It could lead to them both doing well after all coke and Pepsi are still successful despite one knocking off the other. And to add to that metaphor you'd be surprised how much the little changes matter.

Actually it's named halfway between two games that he's drawing inspiration from, so it's some sort of dual knock-off hybrid.

Wait, what's the second game?
And anyway, as far as I know most of the hate is coming from Minecrafters.

I (As an ALMOST exclusive PC gamer) couldn't care less whether this game comes out, I roll my eyes along with the console gamers at the people who say Notch should sue, like you said its not ruining my Minecraft experience. Though if Notch loses a lot of money because people are being this thing instead of Minecraft, I just think thats a damn shame

The second (and according to the developer, primary) influence is Dwarf Fortress. And I could really get behind a Dwarf Fortress-esque game with Minecraft style er... crafting.

Well, you know... if it was on a system I owned or something.

Theirs inspiration, and then thier is blantant copy. Minecraft while started out as a clone, now has moved much away from its original. This is just a blantant copy where to the extent that much of the objects look the exact same.

As far as I know, Minecraft is already drawing inspiration from Dwarf Fortress. So isn't that a bit tautological?

I'm actually planning on trying Dwarf Fortress, just as soon as I get bored of Minecraft :D

This. Just this. Why not make it for PS3 and/or Wii while you're at it? I mean, there's twice as many people on PSN, and that's 3x the profit.

after speaking to a few actual developers, they say that the tools used for making games on the PS3 and the process you have to go through to get those games published is VERY unfriendly and just (overall) usually not worth it.

Meh, fair enough.
Still, would be nice to enjoy some Minecraft-ish gameplay on my console, without having to buy another one.

seeing as minecraft is more expensive
And here we come to the crux of the problem.

Nobody is pissed that FC "ripped off" Minecraft. They're just aren't, no matter how loudly they protest to the contrary. Rather, they're pissed because they feel cheated on their investment. They have put so much into Minecraft; their time, their money, their faith, their support. Then Projector Games comes out with their own block-building simulator game, and they have the AUDACITY to make FC better, faster, cheaper, and to a potentially broader audience.

They aren't willing to abandon what they've sunk so much of themselves into, or even accept that FC and Minecraft can coexist peacefully. So they rage. They rage because it's all they have left; they know FC is going to happen and that they nave no recourse, no defense against it.

But the rest of us? Well, we're breaking out the marshmallows to roast over their searing, red-hot butts so aflame with hurt.

After all, what better snack to eat while playing FirtressCraft than s'mores?

Really I'm just disappointed notch didn't take the chance to announce Minecraft for consoles, that could of stop this one in its tracks. but unfortunately he was to slow and I wish all the console gamers have fun with their shiny new game.
