I believe all games should be on all platforms. Minecraft is on Windows, Linux and Mac. Minecraft should be on PS3, 360 and Wii too. Fortresscraft should be on ALL consoles, and PC. What I think is stupid is people who get left out because they don't own a particular system. There would be a lot more gamers, and more HAPPY gamers if ALL games were available to EVERYONE on EVERY platform: Windows, Linux, Mac, Xbox, PS3, Wii,

Quoted from the developer over on minecraft forum:

And what's everyone's obsessions with creepers? I /hate/ them! If you want one major difference between FC and MC - FC has no damned creepers!

There ya go, no creepers ;)

I wouldn't mind it drawing inspiration from Minecraft but it doesn't, it just full on copied it.

I would be tempted to get it just for the convenience of playing on a console but I can't imagine it ever being a serious competitor to Minecraft.

It's funny how people claim clones like this don't progress the industry at all, but the fact that competition between developers saying "I can do better" has led to certain genres becoming better as a result instead of it stagnating. I'm hoping Fortresscraft succeeds to some degree, so Notch will realize he needs to get off his lazy ass and start actually putting out content that isn't just reskinned blocks and taking mods from the community into his updates. Although I might as well not say anything, considering reasoning and logic are missing from the Notch Defense Force.
http://notch.tumblr.com/

Cause you know, he's totally on his lazy ass not doing anything /sarcasm, and if you've read half the posts here I think reasoning and Logic are rather high.

I'm not trying to snap at you Terran, but I've seen carbon copies of this post so many times that when I came accross your post I got sick and tired of it.

As for the monopoly thing totally unrelated to the above quote, look at EVERY FUCKING INVENTION IN MODERN HISTORY! Pardon the language, but Electricity was monopolized, radio was monopolized, telephones were monopolized, apple monopolizes just about every phone they come out with.

Monopoly is a good and bad thing. It gives someone the ability to get their project rolling, allows for it to be perfected/cleaned up, and allows one cash in on their -idea- before other companies break them down and take em out of the market. There is a DIFFERENCE between a small-scale getting started copyrights monopoly (the reason for half of our inventions today) and a large-scale business monopoly (such as microsoft back in the days.) A good example of this is the subway. If it wasn't for people stealing the idea, we would have had clean, efficient subways back when they were initially invented way back in, last I checked, the 1800s >.>

Edit: Initially FortressCraft will only be available on XBLIG, however we are looking at PC distribution methods. If we can get distribution sorted for FortessCraft on the PC it will probably be more along the lines of "pay $X and you get all updates ever". Unfortunately Sony doesn't provide indie games support like Microsoft does, so it's incredibly unlikely that FortressCraft will see a PSN release

This statement is a loosing point. While I thought it was a clone, and personally didn't like it, there was nothign in the business aspect to piss me off. By having plans to transfer it to PC they really mean "get it popular on the Xbox and then transfer to PC so we get more of an audience than we would of"
Because the hundreds of parrot posts saying how Notch should sue these guys are any better, despite the fact that Notch himself said he doesn't care. I didn't say he didn't do anything at all, I basically said the content he's pumping out is rather lackluster and serves little more than just for looks as opposed to actual gameplay mechanics being implemented into the game. Also, if you compare the Minecraft forums to the reception in this forum, you will find that the Minecraft forums are more friendly to it and didn't have to resort to saying that they should be sued every other comment, despite the fact that the forum is possibly home to most of the fanbase. It's kinda pisses me off to see that people saying it's a complete rip-off even though majority of them probably only watched the first trailer, which almost tells you nothing of how the real game is going to be like. They automatically assume that the game is going to be exactly the same as Minecraft, even though the developer blatantly said they are going to implement ideas that are different from Minecraft.

Can you give a link to where he says that? I am not doubting you, but I have heard ppl say it but I haven't been able to find it anywhere.

For me, Minecraft will always be superior because of the modding possibilities and the fact that the game is developed with "Open Source" in mind.

As for ForteressCraft, I think that the developer saw the opportunity of making a hit with the concept where Notch didn't.

People haven't even played the game and their calling it a CARBON COPY, I mean seriously I play minecraft and I love it to death but I still have seen some differences between FC and MC:
1. FC will have no god dam creepers
2. it looks like water will actually fill things rather then just making a slope from the source
3. different graphical style (which I sorta like but I prefer minecraft's graphical style
4. working mine-carts
5. apparently a tower defence mode

that is 5 big differences already! I mean for £3 I will give this a go.

I can only call it as i see it, and I have seen NOTHING new. If its trying show me it is different from Minecraft it is failing. As a matter afact it is trying to sell itself on being on what made Minecraft popular. Maybe in time these 2 games will be very different but right now they are the same thing.

You telling me we arn't acting well as a community? what the heck am I supposed to say? "I think it looks like a completely different game and ill be loooking forward to it"? That would be lying flat out. Everyone who has rallied to the defence has failed to show me the definitive features that proves me wrong. That Notch is ok with it that is his thing, and i personally wouldn't stand for it.
We haven't seen much to determine anything from it, all we got was some trailer that showed about a minute, already everyone goes to the rush of saying it's an automatic ripoff. Considering you're saying there isn't enough information to say it isn't a ripoff, you're basically saying to just accept your side because of the lack of information, which is a fallacy. There isn't enough information on your side either to support the fact that it is a carbon copy besides a one minute video that shows almost nothing to us on how the final product will be like. Considering the developer has stated in what ways he intends to make the game different, chances of FortressCraft being a carbon copy is low.

People also assume the guy just copied and pasted it and applied a HD texture pack over, which is completely wrong. Minecraft was written in Java, FortressCraft has to be written in an entirely different language, one that is able to be placed on the 360.

It would also be nice if people didn't go about saying "the developer is killing gaming" or "notch should sue them" or whatever copypasta statements. Considering my previous point goes on about how we have no conclusive information to determine that it is a carbon copy, no one can really say that it is a complete ripoff in this point in time.

I haven't read any of these comments, I might very well have been ninja'd... anyhow.

It's silly I know, but that pretty much sums it up. I mean, Yay for developers exploring the premise of Minecraft, to whatever degree of variation - I'd actually welcome this as a trend, and very much so. But what we have here is that just about when everyone and his mom have talked about Minecraft for a while, whoops, pops up a game, that - for now - seems to copy everything, with the only change being water and graphics. Whereas the latter, among other stuff, completely misses the point. (Btw, how big are the worlds and what is a typical outcome of the landscape generator?)... what I was basically seeing in this trailer was nothing but someone thinking "Wee, quick $$$". Because it shows.
