It doesn't really matter. They aren't the revolutionary dev house they used to be. That is what happens when a studio goes from a group of gamers to a corporate environment. If they don't make it, it won't be a loss. I would rather somebody do with a newer engine, what was done with the Doom 3 engine, via mods. Namely, remake Ultimate Doom on it. OR better yet, make a new game based on that engine.
Everyone has moved on, they should too. That's not to say they won't ever make another fantastic game, but the only thing that is gonna happen with Doom 4 is that they will make a product that can't possibly compare to peoples expectations. I do have to say that it's disappointing they felt the need to mention their largest success stories on the box of a game that is nothing like them. It just feels like false advertising.
