No joke. Thats what they said. I don't mind the fact that it got a 6.0, but that they put that as a Con...just blows my mind.

I wasn't aware that a 16 year old game would have dated mechanics, did you? Besides, anyone who is going to buy this game already knows what they're getting into.

Does stuff like this irritate you? Have you seen any other examples like this? This just makes me shake my head in disapproval.

GameSpot crapped itself died on the shitter Elvis style around the release of Kane & Lynch a long, long time ago, their reliability/credibility is currently on par with British Leyland.

They used to bug me, now I make half-wit remarks instead. *hangs head*

Well, it's a re-(re-re-re-)release. The question is whether the game should be judged by today's standards or the standards of when it was first released. Both approaches have a point, to be honest.

...but yeah, it is a bit silly.

That article deserves a big, sarcastic "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO."

Though, of course, the person who wrote the article also brought up the point that other games have had slightly updated graphics. And also spent the bare minimum on taking care of the elephant in the room. So yeah, you deserve a big, sarcastic "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO." too.

Doom II's mechanics feel "dated"? STOP THE PRESSES!!!

Well, it is a valid complaint. Technically the rerelease could have been updated to be consistent with modern standards. Granted GameSpot could have worded it in a less "Captain Obvious reporting for duty!" kind of way.

Doom II has dated mechanics? REALLY? Wow, it must be a terrible game that no one will want to play!

It isn't about Gamespot saying this, its the fact that its even a complaint. How can you fix the character movement/aiming when that is what the game is designed around...?

Perhaps Carolyn Petit should go back to reviewing Cooking Mama games.

Note, I'm not trying to be (very) sexist but this reviewer doesn't seem to get FPS games, or games in general.

I think we are putting too much on dated mechanics and the fact that this is what it says entirely:
The Bad
Antiquated level design relies too much on finding keys and doors Character movement and aiming feel dated.

THAT is a really? never would have guessed a 16 year old game would be like that.

Wow, who would of thought? I mean if you re-vamped Doom II to have better aiming and character movement wouldn't it be like Doom II 1/2? And to say that it's a CON! That was the whole game! Move around and aim at walls to shoot at thing way higher. If you want better character movement and aiming go play Duke Nukem... Otherwise Gamespot needs to quit picking on Doom, lol
