Hey guys and gals.

I used to live in a rented house with my brother and his wife to be Satan- I mean, his fiance. I just recently moved schools and am now living in a dorm. I must say... Dorm life blows ass.
Maybe I'm just pessimistic, but the lack of fun to be had is well... depressing.

My internet flickers on and off on a regular basis. I can't play PSN or XBL because my internet will flick off and kick me out of a game of Socom or Gears.

I also dislike the whole "roommate" aspect. My roommate is erm.. stuck up and spoiled, big time. It's annoyin because when I do try to play my 360 or PS3, she complains that I should be goin out and meeting people, or she'll be studying and then I'll just seem like an asshole.

Is there a good side to dorm life?

That's funny, it's actually my dream to be in a dorm with a bunch of girls. Wait a minute...

Nah, doesn't seem like there's too many upsides to it. Maybe being able to bum a smoke off someone or something, or being able to get party pizza.

If you are underage and can't buy booze, you will be in close proximity to those who aren't and can.

No one at this school goes and gets drunk. Plus I'm in a Sophomore dorm, meaning most girls are 19-20 year olds

Eh, depends on the roommate i guess unless you go out or they do. I'd just suggest going out more often, I've been doing that recently (although I am fortunate to have already known a lot of people who are going here). My roommate is cool or not here often, so i guess i got lucky with that. But to answer the question, yes you get to meet a lot of new people and chill/party with them (this all coming from a person who is very introverted, i figured i had to meet people and get out when i got to college and don't regret it).

I'm living in Aus, shared rooms are pretty uncommon. I have high-speed internet and a fair amount of space, guess it's all depending on your situation.

I can't say that I've ever wanted to live in a dorm due to the horror stories I've heard (and I'm extremely happy that I haven't had to as of yet), but a few of my friends sort of liked the experience.

TO be honest, I missed living in a house, an apartment would be fine too.
I liked cooking my own meals. I liked being able to go in and out as I please. I dunoo.
Dorm life makes me sad.

Well, I've got a two-story dorm room with its own thermostat, high windows, my own bathroom, and a nice roomate to boot.
I've had my share of bad roomates, but it can get better.
Just get good grades!

Since you seem to be a bit more game-oriented than the average college student (as are 99% of here I guess), here's a fun way to make everyone happy; drunken Rock Band. It's my favorite game to play drunk ever. You'll meet lots of interesting people that way too... at least they'll seem interesting at the time.

If you're not a Rock Band person, or not a drinker, sorry. You're really missing out though.

Christian college, I'm a Christian, but I'll get drunk as a skunk sometimes. *sigh*
Most of the students here do not go to parties and crap.

I could never live in a dorm. I like having my own space and my own things far too much. My best friend started dorm life this year and he loves it, except the fact essentially nothing is "his" anymore.

Wow, I feel really bad for you. The only thing that makes college bearable for me is being able to cut loose every now and again. Doing nothing but studying and working takes it's toll after awhile.

How do you cope? Especially in such an oppressive atmosphere...

I have always wanted to give it a shot. When I graduate from my current school I am thinking of finding a school close by that has dorms.

The school just frowns upon drinking. The student still do other normal stuff, like going out and playing ultimate frisbee and everything. I just don't like ultimate frisbee.

Also, as I said before, there is some VERY snobbish people here because this is a very nice school. I was lucky to get in.
