It depends on who is in your dorm hall. Who knows? There may be someone else whose dorm situation sucks just as much as yours. Misery loves company, as the saying goes.

Dorm's locked at 1am.

something that just recently made me made.
My dorm and the dorm next to me share a bathroom, they call these room "suites" but don't be fooled, they're normal size.
It's 11.40pm and I need to pee, oh well, the girl next door is taking a shower... at 11.40pm.
I'm gonna start locking the door on their side so they can't get into the bathroom

Is there a good side to dorm life? Hell no.

Is it an experience that will help you grow as a person? Absolutely.

God dammit, I hated the dorms. I lived with the biggest, stuck-up asshole to ever step foot in my life. He was incredibly wealthy, dumb as a rock, had a polo in every pastel color, and had a cologne collection bigger than most girl's shoe collections. Worst of all though was since all the stuff he brought was obviously better (tv, microwave, couch, dvd player, etc.) he passive-aggressively let me know that it was his room, and I was just living there. SO glad to be out of there and living with my friends.

One question, are you at BYU or USU? I hope not but if you are Ill take you out and party. Which will mostly consist of you and me getting drunk and making fun of mormons.

There is only one thing you can do in your situation GET YOUR OWN ROOM AND BUILD A BAR. Then MEET PEOPLE that want to have fun.

Well, if it where me I would lay down some ground rules with your roommate. Tell her she isn't supreme fucking dictator of your life or what you view as enjoyable, and if she retorts with something like "you're just a loser" I'm sure theres a billion things you could come back with.

I had a decent dorm. Sounds like you got bad luck in terms of res. Res life is one of those quintessential college/uni experiences that, I think, is great to have (and really funny to look back on). The thing that was great about it for me is that it forced me into social situations I would otherwise have avoided. I made some great friends (two of whom are my current roommates). You can look back on it and *****, but if you make yourself miserable you'll end up with a shitty year. Bad luck with roommates? Certainly an issue, but in the case of gaming, tell her to screw off. You could also try more passive alternatives like headphones. As for your internet and gaming? Well... shitty internet is certainly something to cause one to bite faces off, but for gaming? Well, it may sound annoying, but just deal with single player for a year. I guess I'm a single-player/couch co-op person anyway so it wasn't a hard adaption for me, but still, its there so you don't need the internet to game.

The one thing in res to survive is to find a really solid group of friends. You need them, or res will eat you alive. The 'Pist is a great place, but going out and meeting people is important too.

Yeah screw the college room-mate. If you can't handpick em..scccccccccrew that. lollolol
I've had many living situations that were similiar, but in close quarters like a dorm it sucks. I hope you boot her ass outta there and find another room-mate..lol Good luck:)

his wife to be Satan- I mean, his fiance
Shouldn't it be

My brother and Satan- I mean his fiance.
Sorry, nitpicking.

Anyway, Dorm life sounds cool. I guess you were just unlucky. You got someone who's different than your normal friends. But it sounds like you both aren't doing much to improve this relationship

Your college sounds like a Hell Hole, it reminds me of the young Van Wilder movie. Anyway, that must be a shitty place to be. For me anyways.

The only part she's right is the "go out and meet people". I live in a dorm where no one makes a sound. It's almost depressing. I have to go out, or I'll go crazy.

It's college! You should be out and make stupid but fun choices.

Hey guys and gals.

I used to live in a rented house with my brother and his wife to be Satan- I mean, his fiance. I just recently moved schools and am now living in a dorm. I must say... Dorm life blows ass.
Maybe I'm just pessimistic, but the lack of fun to be had is well... depressing.

My internet flickers on and off on a regular basis. I can't play PSN or XBL because my internet will flick off and kick me out of a game of Socom or Gears.

I also dislike the whole "roommate" aspect. My roommate is erm.. stuck up and spoiled, big time. It's annoyin because when I do try to play my 360 or PS3, she complains that I should be goin out and meeting people, or she'll be studying and then I'll just seem like an asshole.

Is there a good side to dorm life?
Wow, that actually sounds exactly like my dorm life. And it also sounds like my ex girlfriend whose name is also Erin. Go figure.

I'd say the not having to commute every day, the sense of community and like minded people around you, and the food.

Bahahaha no really the food sucks doesn't it?

Ya, I use to live in dorms, but then I got fucked over and had to quit school for a while, but when I got out I could rent a room with a couple guys.
But dorm life isn't worth it, I suggest finding people in your school (or if you already know people in that town) and get a house/apartment together

Sorry dorm life is harder for girls. Also, the dorm internet flickers due to the heavy traffic. It could be worse, you could live with a slob (that makes everything worse).

The only upsides to dorm life happen in either co-ed dorms or if you luck out and get awesome roommates. If neither of those are the case, you will live a hard life for the next chunk of your life.
