If you went to an American school in the 90s like I did you will probably remember using the old Macs in school labs.

These macs would have gaming classics such as Number Munchers and Oregon Trail. These games were of course to help us learn mathematics/touch typing and also a bit of history while having fun. I remember thoroughly enjoying the hour a week or whatever it was at the computer lab.

Recently I was given the opportunity to play a few of these games at a friend's house, who (somehow) still has a working DOS computer. A lot of nostalgia.

I was wondering if anyone still enjoys DOS gaming or if anyone remembers playing these games. At home I played many hours of Mixed Up Mother Goose and Wolfenstein. As a kid I remember I was sad when we got a windows 95 PC since that meant we lost a lot of our old DOS games.

Also, I was wondering what sort of edutainment software do schools use these days? Is it like the mac labs of old or do they just promote Brain Age?

Ive still got floppy disks of classics like Prince of Persia and Wolf3d.

Got Wolf3d on Steam now though, kind of ruins the Dos part.

Does anyone reemmber a game starring a character in a Red Cap? You couldn't see his face since it was covered in his large light blue jacket. He held a zapper of some sort I think. He was in a bunch of puzzle games I think. If anyone can help me remember the name of the game series he was in that would be much appreciated.

from my experience, schools don't exactly use edutainment software nowadays. I guess it's more about the interactivity - sometimes kids would do questions on the computer in a similar way that they would on paper, but the interactivity makes it more engaging.

all I had was Granny's Garden [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Granny%27s_Garden]. that witch scared the shit out of me.

DOS GAMES. FUCK YEAH. just trying to get in to Daggerfall at the moment (it was a bugger to get working, but I did), I've also got Sam And Max Hit The Road, a classic DOS adventure game (seriously, it's worth it for the voice acting alone!). considering installing Dark Forces, too.

For those of you who want to get in to DOS gaming, download D-Fend Reloaded [http://dfendreloaded.sourceforge.net/] - it's basically DOSBox with an easy-to-use frontend allowing for easy access to configuration options and whatnot. Unfortunately, it's Windows only from what I see.

edit: if you're not playing Blood [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_(video_game)] you're a scrubby scrub scrub

We had a mix between tetris and learning tables. it was awsome and I kicked ass at it.

You typed in sollutions to simple math problems and you got blocks wich you could slide into a wall, making the wall full was next level.
