Hello Escapists, I have encountered a problem when attempting to use DOSbox to run some old games.

The command line I need to use is:

mount C C:\DOSGAMES

Seems simple, right? Not quite.

When I press the \ key in DOSbox, it does a ]. When I press the ] key, it does a [.

What happens when I press [, you may ask? Nothing, nada, zilch.

By the way, the three keys are like this on my keyboard:

[ ] \

So, any help would be greatly appreciated!

You have a non-US keyboard I believe. You will have to scour your keyboard in search of the right key.

Or just look in the internet to learn the right keys.

Yes. Yeah for qwerty keyboards as the standard computer interface!!!!!!!!

The internet is usually a great resource when dealing with things of this nature.

And besides, this should be in the off topic discussion. Its not actually about gaming.

Been a while since I used DosBox (Hello, Warcraft Orcs vs Humans!), but could you copy/paste the slash into it for the time being?

Forgive me if my "solution" doesn't work... only other thing I can think of is using ascii (alt+num pad) to achieve the same result.

Well it is. As DOSBox is used to play old games, that todays OS don't support.

I do have a US, QWERTY keyboard.

The problem is, when I press the \ key, it does a ] instead of the \ it is supposed to do.

I'm hitting the right key, but getting the wrong results.

You sure you have? Hmmmm...you have some keys switched? Well thats the best advice I can give. Try to press every key in search of it.

It works outside of DOSbox, just not IN it.

Maybe that's the problem?
Actually this has a great deal of merit. I'm on a laptop, and i don't have the extra number set on the right. I actually couldn't use all of the functionality of garrysmod because i didn't have those numbers.

You might not actually be able to use it.

you might have to get some kind of usb keyboard and plug it in... idk if they make those...

The simple test is to look at your enter key.

There are 3 or 4 different shapes, and which you have depends on where your system was made and what it was intended for.

Look them up on Google and find where \ is on each. Then compare the differences, and find which keys would likely be the one you're looking for.

Wait... you don't know if they make USB keyboards? When the hell did you last buy a keyboard; it's nigh on impossible to buy one that isn't USB these days...

actually my parents just bought a new HP desktop and the connector had a factory specific connection like the old mouse connections. that was a year ago.
I have never actually bought an after market keyboard before. And i have a phobia about not covering my bases. Its more of an instinct than any real idea i think.

Fail? It's called using 7,8,9,0,-,=,[,],;,',\ in place of the numpad? I use a laptop, and even I did that...
Yes, i bound the keys.
