The original LoL community is literally cut from the same cloth as DotA's. For all practical purposes, they are one and the same (I played DotA from its inception during Reign of Chaos, when Eul still had it).SergeantAnt said:i'd just play LoL. Mainly because since dota is just a custom wc3 game theres an insane number of trolls. the most trolls you will EVER meet.
This man speaks the truth, there has never been a single MOBA that had a good community. Ever.Atmos Duality said:The original LoL community is literally cut from the same cloth as DotA's. LoL's community is every bit as dickish and bad as DotA's; even a cursory glance of Riot's forums will prove it.
I would posit that it is actually impossible for a MOBA community to not be comprised almost entirely of jerks and idiots. The difference here, I feel, is that LoL, by virtue of being f2p and not requiring warcraft 3 would likely have more idiots than DotA. Those idiots actually serve to dilute the population of jerks which can make encountering the jerks in a game a less frequent occurrence. DotA on the other hand would likely have a much slower influx of newer players (read as idiots) meaning that all those veterans who have been playing for years have had more time to fester and become even more hate-filled and anti-fun 'we must win at all costs' jerks that fill the cracks in the mortar of every MOBA.SL33TBL1ND said:This man speaks the truth, there has never been a single MOBA that had a good community. Interestingly, I started playing CSS about a year back and it hasn't been too bad. But I'd still agree with your comparison, yes.hyzaku said:I would posit that it is actually impossible for a MOBA community to not be comprised almost entirely of jerks and idiots. For a comparison, DotA is like Counterstrike, with LoL being CoD.
Except DoTA doesn't have a system that identifies and bans people who leave or abuse other players...hyzaku said:I would posit that it is actually impossible for a MOBA community to not be comprised almost entirely of jerks and idiots. This. LoL is a dumped down easier version of DotA, basically. Even more so, due to DotA's balance being a bit.. eh.. Yeah.. Means it will require some more to pull of anything, even more so as the DotA servers are always laggy.Vuljatar said:In brief, LoL is DotA for children--and everything that implies.
And watch out for LoL players taking any chance they can to feel superior to HoN for reasons either exaggerated or totally fabricated. LoL hardcore fans are just as bad as hardcore DotA/HoN fans and anyone who says otherwise is lying or in denial. All the communities are trash, none are worse than the others. I played DotA for a few years when I was in high school/college, and have played HoN and LoL since both were in closed beta, and this whole elitism thing each community has is one of the most pathetic things I have ever seen in the internet. Please, stop participating in pointless shit throwing at another game and the people who play it because it is not YOUR game. You are no better than HoN fans you claim are trolls.psychodynamica said:I only played DOTA a couple of times before LOL came out, but two of my friends are kind of pro. They will tell you (as will I) That league of legends has a much better community, stronger if slower gameplay, and better balance. But beware DOTA and HON hardcore fans are trolling to the maximum and will ALL CAPS RAGE at any indication that LOL is any way better (they see user friendliness as a bad thing.).
