Double Standard

Ok, now I'm just annoyed. Upon getting back to campus, I went to set up my room. I went to put up my posters, and I asked someone to hold the bottoms to keep them in line and neat. The person I asked happened to be the Assitant Housing Director, but I didn't think anything of it.

But when I unrolled my poster to put it up she said "Oh no, I'm sorry, you can't put that up." When I asked why, she said it was because it was too sexual in nature. Now, this is what the poster looks like;

When I unrolled the next one, she again said no, and for the same reason.

Now thoroughly annoyed, I rolled them back up and put them away. I'm not starting anything over a wall poster. But what is getting to me is the apparent double standard. I know that she has been in rooms with posters like these:

covering the walls, and some with even less (I swear, in half of them the women are wearing nothing but sand and a smile), but they get to stay up, and as far as I know, not a word is said abou them.

What. The. Hell. Are people really that put off by anime?

Well she isn't.. Wrong. If the rule is nothing sexual then those are breaking the rules. But you say their were more that weren't anime but worse? Is it possible its just a coincidence and she didn't see them?

I guess because its Japanese, people think its different and weird, and in this case they think its porn.

EDIT: I guess you could argue the second one isn't sexual, but your looking at it from a person who inst familiar with this stuff at alls perspective. Maybe explain it to her if you really care.

Put them up when they're not around. If you have no recourse against the ruling, you could always ignore it. Otherwise you'll need to appeal to her sense of reason or try to convince her that it's no more harmful than any other chesty poster.

The first one is sexual but the second one REALY ? Sure she has big boobs but its not sexual.

You should be able hang whatever poster you want no mater how sexual .

Try asking her to put up a poster like the third one in your post.

THEN see if she agrees or not. If she lets it be put up, complain. If not, ask why others have posters similar but they are up.

The first one, I can see her point. The second one not so much. However, if you don't have anyone under 18 in your room/on your floor/in your house(not sure what kind of dorm your living in) then I would put them up and tell anyone with a problem that it's my room, and there is no way that anyone underage would see them, so they can F off. but that's just me.

The first one I think she just had a problem with because how littler there is of any actual material covering them. Sure, there's turtles and drinks in the way, but that's alot different than an actual bikini or something.

The second one, I don't see the problem. People are just different sizes.

I'd agree with her on that first one to be honest - if you like that, fine, but the people you share with might not be too comfortable with it (assuming you do share with someone).

The other seems fine though.

But seriously, why would you ask a woman (not only that, but the Assitant Housing Director) to help you put up posters like that?
You know they're not going to approve/be too happy about it.

This is exactly what I wanted to say, but had issues putting into words.

Combined with the fact you're asking a women to do this (Who, if she doesn't watch anime, is probably more inclined to be offended by it in some way shape or form), just doesn't seem to make sense. Just do it when she's not around, and hope she never sees it.

There are simply so many genres of anime, you can't generalize it all as one thing or the other. You have your mechs, your action, psychological, school-girl, slice-of-life, magical, adventure, and so on and so on... And then they often combine the genres! Sure, there is anime that is porn; labeled as 'hentai.' That doesn't mean that all anime is porn. After all, if you're following that logic, all life action material would be porn, neh?

Well the first one I can completely understand. It is more than a little risque. The second one... yeah, that's messed up. I mean I personally wouldn't have a poster that sexual in my room anyway, but to allow real-life ones and not anime ones... yeah, that's just... yeah.

Yeah, I don't really know what to say. The Love Hina one (I'm fairly certain that's what it is), I guess I can understand it, due to the fact that the chick on the left (I know her name starts with N) has literally only got hair obscuring her nipples, and the poster presents itself in a way that is suggestive of sexual intention, but the Major?! I don't really understand what's wrong with that. She obviously showing less skin than Miss Alba. It could just be the immediate connection that those who don't watch anime make with hentai, but really, I don't understand why she would feel that these were inappropriate things to be mounted on your walls.

On top of that, I'm not totally certain that they can tell you not to, as, and this has been mentioned before, you are not altering or damaging property in any way...Unless it that's a policy they've detailed somewhere in writing...And even then, the Love Hina poster doesn't show anything particularly explicit anyway.

and the first poster IS sexual...somewhat, but due to me being no stranger to the...darker side of anime, I personally consider that just fanservice
