So yeah, my fellow Escapists. Have you ever been faced with the 'double standard' when interacting with women in some shape or form?

My favorite one is when a man makes a mistake, he is whipped at by the woman for making it, to a ridiculous point, but when the woman does it, its all fine. If you try to point out that its actually her fault, you just get more backslash from her, and then it SOMEHOW gets pinned on YOU.

That would be anecdotal evidence, which isn't exactly the scientific bar. There are a shit-ton of guys who are abusive and controlling or always mock and put down their women.

I will give you some credit for being sincere and assume (until I have reason to do otherwise) that you aren't trying to gently assert that women hold a double standard, which would be a sweeping blanket statement and a stereotype and therefore useless in the public discourse/debate.

So, if I'm right, that means that you're asking if some women hold men to a double standard. I'd say it depends on what you call a woman. If you mean a biological female human over the age of 18 then yes, quite a few of them do it. When we respond in kind, it breeds more of this, and so on, and so on. Ever met an ignorant, racist-ass black person? They are different from ignorant, racist-ass white folk only in surface-level social preferences; they are otherwise indistinguishable in their world views and behavior. In other words, they are equally insufferable. If you hold what you consider to be women to a slightly higher standard, as I do, then I'd say no, women do not do that. Triflin' bitches do that. And there's a solution to the problem: don't fuck around with triflin' bitches, and go out and find yourself a real woman.

Car insurance is based on the likely hood of you getting into an accident and what kind of car you drive. In Canada women pay less because they better and safer drivers than men. There never was any special treatment, insurance rates are 100% a numbers game.

In almost every developed country, statistics indicate that men are by far the more reckless drivers and much more likely to get into accidents - particularly under the age of 25. Hence their insurance rates are higher. That's no double standard or unfair treatment, that's insurance companies doing the logical thing because statistically speaking a certain subset of the population is a bunch of fucktards behind the wheel.

Blokes had been asking for equal insurance rates to women for a while here in the UK. And women have been demanding equal rights in all forms.

To make things more "even" they start charging women the same rates as men.

I'd gone round to my sisters for a coffee when it came on the news and she flew right into a rant. She didn't see how it was fair that she was expected to pay more just because she was a woman.

The point of my little rant wasn't aimed at insurance companies. I'm 31 years old and have been driving since I was 17, people seem to think i'm a moron and feel the need to explain things to me. I know how insurance works, or at least did until they changed it to charge equally.

My point was aimed at women that don't think it's fair they should pay an equal amount to men.

So my understanding of people around these forums is that they are in favour of equal rights for men and women correct?

So is that full equal rights or only equal rights when it suits them and not when they have to actually pay something equal to a man.

That would be a double standard then. That would be the point I was aiming at.

Equal rights have been demanded on jobs and pay and, in the past, the vote. So all equal rights seem based on something they receive, It just seems there is a general air of disapprovement from some women when that equal right means they have to pay a bit more for something.

Either they want full equal rights or they don't. I wish they would make their minds up.

This is bullshit. It's a good example of discrimination against women.

Here is an example of discrimination against men: When women design fantasies to revolve around their own desires, where the female characters are what women want to be and the men are what women want them to be, like Twilight or Anne Rice novels, no one cares. (Aside from pointing out how stupid sparkly vampires are.) By contrast, when men do the same thing, designing fantasies where the male characters are what we want to be and the female characters are what we want them to be, not only is the stupidity of chainmail bikinis pointed out, we get accused of sexism, even if the female characters are intelligent, independent badasses.

All people write fantasies based on what they want, including beautiful/handsome depictions of the gender(s) they are attracted to. How hard is that to understand?

If women statistically have less accidents, they pay less. It's just common sense. The ECJ have fucked with this and given insurance companies a free-ride to charge more for no good reason.

I think the problem always was that women were so happy to base this on Stats here, but when you pull out a stat to a man's advantage it's sexist.

Such as statstically a female doctor will work far less in her lifetime than a male doctor, thus meaning that if we base NHS funding for medical degrees on statistics we should allocate more funding to men. But infact we are having to do the opposite because of 'positive discrimination'. So you see, whilst there is a perfectly good statistical reason for women paying less, it really does irk when it works only that way to the disadvantage of men.

when you have a closed group of people, and you allocate resources to advantage a certain portion of that grup, regardless of how you pick the advantaged group, the rest either don't get their share of the resources, or end up loosing the share they already had to advantage the group that gets more.

No, a woman having to pay less on her car insurance has absolutely no effect on how much a man pays. If women didn't drive and therefore didn't pay insurance, a mans insurance wouldn't be any less.

We had just taken the test and had nothing else to do so every one was just standing around waiting for the school bell to ring. I decided to lay down and try to sleep. The whole stay-at-home dads are losers thing.

My dad worked from home when I was little, and my mom went out and worked as a vet.
When my dad stopped working, he became a full-time stay-at-home dad, caring for my sister and me.

It just bugs me that people can't accept the idea that a man isn't going out and working, but if a woman stays at home to take care of the kids, no-one bats an eye.
