I'm sure you've all had your share of them: people on the internet who act as they please and insult anyone who don't agree with them or bow down to them. In the light of this discussion, I'd like to share a small story with you people.

A friend of mine had a recent run-in with a guy who wanted to (and I apologize for the expression) show her how he can shove bottles in his rear. Being disgusted by the idea, she obviously declined the offer and got insulted seconds after, for being a "****". Naturally, revenge ensues. She has asked for help of others and we've started a facebook group [http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=122557511123869&ref=ts] with a few friends to organize some form of payback. You're all invited to join, although you're not obliged to. I myself haven't had the distinct honor of having to deal with one, and I hope I never will. But I'm sure a lot of you have.

While it isn't my point to insult and isolate people with low morality, I do want people to talk about their own experiences if they want to share them with us in this thread. And of course, to stand up against the residents of the Kingdom of Douchebaggia.

Are there any douchebags you have run into online, and what exactly went down? How did you deal with them?

Nota bene: I'd like to keep things civilized in this thread, so I hope the moderators will keep a close eye here.

MineCraft moderators.

Build something cool? They'll ban you and take your stuff.

No swearing rule? They'll swear at you.

Biggest douchebags I've ever seen in my life.

And I didn't deal with them, they banned me.

Yeah loads and loads. I play with my headset in...

I laugh at their stupidity, use the mute button and proceed to kill and teabag them for the whole match.

On MSN or Facebook or anything I just block them and ignore them... I'm not putting up with that.

Why haven't you bowed down to me yet, *****!?

When I run into a douchebag, I usually ignore them.

Because ignoring them is the best thing to do

Are you getting revenge for being called a **** or for him wanting to show you his beer bottle "trick"?

Either way you're going the wrong way about it, you're supposed to say yes to his invitation, film it and send it to his friends.

So someone had a bad day and made a facebook group about it? Seems a waste of time, where's the payback, and what's the point in trying to get payback.

There are always rude people on the internet. I don't deal with them because I don't really get upset about them. Someones being a dick, okay whatever.

Didn't you get the memo? 98% of the internet is made up of douchebags. As well as 98% of percentages being made up on the spot.

[sub]Was that a made up percentage? It seems we have a conundrum...[/sub]

Even Blizzard's Real ID wouldn't stop people being douchebags. Anonymity equals power. And, well...
"How does one man exert one's power over another, Winston?"
"By making him suffer."

Nice idea for a thread. Unforunately most people on the internet are douches, mostly because people in general are douches. But with anonymity and audience... (I direct you to John Gabriel's greater internet dickwad theory).
I have actually managed to stay away from trolls and such. so far... so I don't have any "interesting" story to tell. Though OP; I hope the guy in your story got what he deserved. :)

Ah the internet, where anonymity and douchebaggery collide. I've ran into far too many of these guys to count. I usually [try to] play the role of a sarcastic wise-ass whenever confronting someone. My most recent was when I was playing Red Dead Redemption online a couple hours ago. I get invited to join a clan (All British, as I found out), and the exact instant I open my mouth the leader shoots me in the head for being American. Gotta love it. I just responded with sarcastic remarks about how the internet is so obviously not international. What was I thinking for trying to play with people from a different country?

Another time I teamed up with a random player to assault a gang hideout, when a few minutes later someone else comes up shooting everything in sight. Including us. It wasn't long before we were concentrating on him instead of the gang members. Sadly, I was the only one with a mic so all I could do was make a remark about how great it is to see people working together. I'm glad Rockstar plans to punish these people in their next update >:D

It's not about what he did or said, it's about the principle. I agree that it's better to ignore someone like that, although a kick in his ass (or a broken beer bottle, as my friend put it) could be equally effective and soothing.

He will, there's a plan a-brewin'. But I can't tell anyone just yet, the group is only phase one, and all people need to do to help, is to simply join.

That might be phase two, hence the facebook group.

What was the formula again? Anomity + Audience = Douchebaggery. It happens all the time, and the Internet makes it so that happens nearly everywhere.

I haven't seen many however, most of my time on the Internet is in Steam or the Escapist. My treks into YouTube have shown how bad it is.

Can't think of many at the moment, I'll post later when one does.

Oh hey there, welcome to the Internet, here you'll have millions upon millions of sources for information and entertainment, you are free to explore at your leisure and do what you wish with these sources! What will you do first? :D

Oh... you want to corrupt the sources, insult those who enjoy other sources even though their enjoyment does not prohibit your own and overall just act like a douche?

Total Freedom: It's a terrible terrible thing

I don't meet too many, and I usually ignore most of them. However when I was playing the L4D2 mutation Versus Survival over XBox Live, two griefers joined and tried to TK my friend and I. I was actually in good humour, and had decided to screw around anyways, so I joined in on getting our team killed, my friend did also, it was a good laugh, and then they began to insult my friend and I in the lobby (the other team was telling them to shut up, I think they realized that those two were griefers and had ruined the last game). I don't think they noticed that I was the lobby leader, so I said this to them "Let me introduce you to one of my friends, his name is the X Button." and I booted them from the lobby, everyone got a good laugh out of that.

Too many to account. But the main games that have them are:

1)World of Warcraft.
2)Heroes of Newerth.

1) Because you're stuck on a server with them and will come across them frequently. You can't just pretend they don't exist.

2) Because a douche can majorly affect your enjoyment of them game outside of 'playing for fun'. They can cause you to lose a game and lose 'rating' or other statistics like KDR. This is pretty much what the game revolves around.

How do you deal with them?

Accept that alot of people in the world are douchebags.
Accept the vast majority can be under the right circumstances. But remember that there are some that aren't. Don't let the douches get you down. Value the people who aren't douches.

Grow a tough hide. But don't get arogant so you become a douche yourself. No one wants to be a hypocrite. You can still be a kind person and still not be a push over.

Douches are part of life. It's part of humanity. You not being a douche makes one-less in the world.

I'm not going to download it until later. I'm currently at my Paternal Grandparents' house.

Is there a group for men who do enjoy beer bottles in their ass?

And yes, I experience this everyday. I mostly have to get into the habit of ignoring them, but sometimes they managed to aquire a following of fanboys.

Let's just say, thank god he got banned. Much more enjoyable site.
