I have made some my own music but I am not sure I want to release it yet and it is mainly because of downloading! Seriously think about it, alot of people think today's music is rubbish (mostly mainstream) and that they aren't talented.
Well I think they are not trying on purpose, making money of those crappy covers and still getting on MTV! Its there scape goat on putting hardly any effort in and there will always be people that eat it up.
Who knows, maybe there are some real talented people out there but are not going to do much because of downloading or maybe because they can't be stuffed! This goes for Movies and Games also, as you can see from Yahtzees reviews that most of the story lines are pretty lame or have been done before but there are still people trying.
Say you knew you were going to be as good as The Beatles (just an example), would you want go into the music industry knowing that more than 60% of your fans are going to download everything you do? (Not saying I know my music is the best)
Or maybe you think of a really good story that is original, do you think it's worth it? All that effort and you may not get much out of it.
There is a South Park episode on this topic if you can remember, Stan and Kyle started their own band but decided not to do anything until something was done about the illegal downloading. At the end of the episode they changed their mind and decided to make music for the sake of art, because they enjoy it and they want to be remembered in history!
What are your thoughts?
