They are for all intents and purposes the exact same character. The question really comes down to which setting you enjoy them in better, or which show is better? The legitimate medical drama, or the show where Zach Braff can't shut the fuck up for 2 and half seconds. They should have reformatted that show after the first episode and made it all about Donald Faison. He's way funnier.

Seriously though, House MD is a great show, its too bad Kutner had to commit suicide in the show just so the actor could go work for President Obama in the White House.
House is funny, intelligent, it has good actors, decent and accurate medicine, and it isn't limited to diseases for its patients (i.e. the gypsy kid who swallowed a toothpick, which proceeded to shred his internal organs), the diseases are always legit, if exceedingly rare, and the episodes have themes to explore other aspects of the human mind which always end well, like House VS God, of the Alien Episode(i can't remember the name).

I like elongated syllables in words, so I am going with Dah-ha-hoctor Cox. I also liked he episode where he pretended to be House, walking around with a cane.

House wins in terms of being a doctor and being funny. Purely for "Oh, you're selling religion. Well I bought some Islam the other week, sorry."

It's a matter of personal preference; Comedy vs Drama.
Dr. House is the dramatic modern medical interpretation of Sherlock Holmes.
Dr. Cox is ... well, he's a character on a zany comedy show.
I'm a fan of House because I was raised on the old Basil Rathbone Sherlock Holmes movies. I identify with him more.

Scrubs takes the award for the best medical show, however you cant help but love a doctor who regularly breaks into his patients/friends houses in the name of good televison

Me and my friends always thought of this scenario where the two of them would show down in some battle of insults and wit. It would start like this...
After solving another insane case, House goes to walk into the bathroom. In another world, Dr. Cox finishes calling J.D. a girl and does the same. After walking through the door, they realize they've entered a dark room, with only one light in the middle, shining on a desk with a chair on either side.
They both sit down, and the battle to end all battles begins... it would be much easier to describe the way they act in person, but I'm sure fans of them could imagine well enough on their own.
