So uhh... Yeah.

I was thinking about starting the Doctor Who series. So is this a good idea? Do I need any pointers about it? I'm kind of the new kid at school here.

(Please correct me if I'm wrong) A guy goes back in time and does things. I thought it sounded awesome. I never got around to watching it, though. So I was going to start on Netflix.

My mind feels kind of blank, here. So can you help me out with this? I know there are multiple doctors but that's about it. Just the curious new guy here.

Start with the last series if you're wanting to start with Matt Smiths Doctor.

If you try watching this series you'll end up confused as to what the hell is happening.

If you want a proper feel for the new Doctor series i'd say go back to Eccleston and watch his through Tennant and onto Smith.

But if I was to be brutally honest i'd tell you to go back further and watch Sylvester McCoy, the best Doctor by far (disclaimer - i'm not old enough to remember anything further back than the 80's so McCoy was my first Doctor, he was the Doctor when I was a kid as such he's my favourite ..... plus I had a little thing for Ace his lass sidekick).

I recommend David Tennant's run, personally. He was my favorite. You can start with the new series just fine, though.

A basic intro for you: The Doctor is an alien, and his species is called Time Lord. He's the last living Time Lord(the only other one, The Master, sometimes pops up as an antagonist, but for all intents and purposes, The Doctor is the last). He has a Tardis, which is short for time and relative dimension in space, which allows him to travel through space and time. Forward or backward, and anywhere in the universe. When Time Lords are about to die, they instead regenerate into a new form, healing themselves. That is why the series can get new actors playing The Doctor. He'll regenerate, and a new actor comes in.

The Doctor usually has a human companion or two traveling with him as well. Helps keep him sane and not as lonely.

I hope this helps!

It's more like TIME acquiesces to allow an entity or "person" through the use of a TARDIS to visit things and at times change things that in themselves were always meant to be changed BUT COULD live on without being changed, and takes a "companion" along with him.

This "Doctor" is unnamed to almost everyone, and of course is more capable and in general more than meets the eye.
