I liked this weeks story, I know some won't. Again there was the 70's feel about this week, Banksy zombies and the old favorite running around in tunnels. If I was going to be pedantic there are not any old war department tunnels under Bristol. The nearest ones are under Box hill 20 miles away.

I liked the monsters quite a lot. The idea, the design, sufficiently creepy.

The execution was flawed, again, though. The presence of the romantic sub-plot didn't really serve any end here; it didn't lead anywhere, and only distracted from the gravity of the situation while they were being attacked in the apartment. That should've been scary, not farcical, with her on the phone pretending everything's okay. It turned the moment into a cheap joke.

Quite clever tricking the monsters into re-charging the TARDIS. Quite not clever defeating the monsters by just blasting them away with pulses of unexplained energy, that were hitherto not even hinted at.

The Doctor did earlier say he'd thought of a thing to maybe get rid of them, he just didn't have the power.

I though the episode was fairly decent, though I didn't care for it myself.

Need to stop the romance stuff, stop the blather about making tough choices, and stop waving that mysterious woman at us, though.

You're right, I'd forgotten that they did mention it. Still, the solution didn't really mean anything to anyone watching. I'm prepared to mostly forgive it, because linking that kid's graffiti skills into the plan to trick the monsters was a bit clever.

I must admit to liking the "tough choices" theme, though they've been a little heavy-handed with it. They would do better to just include difficult decision-making in the stories, rather than dedicate a little section of exposition at the end of each episode to talking about how choices are hard sometimes (as they did in the Mummy episode, as well as this one).

Oh, one thing that did annoy me, when flattening a door handle meant they couldn't open the door. Why couldn't the sonic screwdriver take the hinges off or something?

My major gripe was why was the tardis shrunk? The monsters of the show were shown that they needed to be either next to or near their target in order to manipulate it. Why was the tardis then drained as it was?

To be fair, the tough choices bit at the end of this one resulted in at least some payoff for the off-screen romance; in that, Clara's capability isn't necessarily a positive thing when it comes to being an actual person. I mean, it's about as subtle as this show gets, but it's still worth looking at. She's playing at being someone who she probably has no business being. It's a bit ironic for the crazy alien guy she's with to realize that before she did.

Speaking of subtlety (or lackthereof), that heaven teasing nonsense is hitting a little too hard with no payoff. They could have made it a bit less prominent and just put hints around instead of just constantly showing it to us. Feels disconnecting.

I think it's less of a proximity thing in that case. They're abducting humans in the other scenarios, it's a bit simpler. I imagine energy draining for them isn't necessarily based on physical proximity (Although it could as well be space wizardry, so there is that).
